Not unprovable, PCs are capable of much better graphics

They are, but the statement "The PC always seems to have better graphics." is utterly unprovable, as if the PC is inherently better. It isn't. He seemed to claim that an equivalent PC will outdo a console on sheer being-a-PC magic.

There are, but they current require an extremely high end computer and are still extremely unstable.
So practically useless then.

Wii does have a working emulator that doesn't require an extremely high end computer.
I didn't know. Does the whole motion control thing still work?

Yes it is. If you are comparing anything you have to look at all the capabilities of what you are comparing.
But then it's really not a competition, is it? They're not really aimed at the same thing, we might as well be comparing apples and chairs. I thought we were talking about a PC and a console playing games of the same generation/level here.

Then I guess yeah, a PC is much better, because not only can you play older games, you can do spreadsheets and use your e-mail, and you can't do that on a console. You can use Photoshop and watch porn.
Besides, there's nothing preventing you from getting a console and a relatively much inferior PC to play older games. These aren't really "alternatives" to one another.

First off no that is not what I meant at all. I was simply referring to the fact you can always get a better graphics card and any new Nvidia will outdo a console by far. And with PhsyX effects that are more limited to Nvidia cards then the the console will never be the same. I am just saying that you can always upgrade a PC but you can't upgrade a console (as of now).

Still I think a PC (well computer) still does and can pass any Ps3 or Xbox 360.

Actually you can play any old ps1 ps2 games on a ps3. You can check your email on a Ps3 (web Browser) and I am pretty sure you can look up porn but I haven't checked nor will I. You can watch You Tube on the 360 and PS3.

For now, the 360 ones I think are rapidly on their way to being extremely useful. The PS3 on the other hand, with its cell processor, is a total pain to emulate.

But then it's really not a competition, is it? They're not really aimed at the same thing, we might as well be comparing apples and chairs.

Its not my fault that to compare PCs and consoles on an even playing field you have to cut out most of the PCs abilities. That just means the PC is better as a whole.

How does that change things? No matter what you do a gaming PC will outperform a console.

I'm pretty sure you can check email on the 360, PS3, Wii, and Wii U. And who knows what the 720 and PS4 will actually be able to do.

Besides, there's nothing preventing you from getting a console and a relatively much inferior PC to play older games. These aren't really "alternatives" to one another.

If you know how to build a computer they are. You can custom build a computer that can play current generation games, and still do all the other things, that would cost less than a console and a PC. The only "advantage" consoles have is exclusives, which depend entirely on personal opinion if they are worth it or not.

Even though you pretty much just said the exact same things I just said. I dont think the 360 can check email but it can use bing and whatnot. I havent tried it so I dont know

That certainly hasn't been anywhere close to true in my experience, especially if you're not in a country where that kind of thing is cheap.

And to be perfectly honest, most console owners are going to have a PC anyway, because who in god's name doesn't. So the upgrade to a gaming PC doesn't really bring a whole lot of new features versus the console, but mostly just "being able to play the generation's AAA titles".

No matter what you do a gaming PC will outperform a console.

A "gaming PC", yes, but as I said that's not always a possibility. Performance is hardly the only aspect we have to take into consideration, or else this entire thread would be really really easy to answer. Price is a absolutely still a factor. Game libraries are still a factor, albeit less so.

I'm pretty sure you can check email on the 360, PS3, Wii, and Wii U. And who knows what the 720 and PS4 will actually be able to do.

Do you hear that whooshing sound? That was the point. What I meant is that the PC is a multifunctional machine not necessarily meant to compete with consoles.

Which is why comparing them in a non-gaming aspect is about as constructive as comparing a Starbucks to a mall and saying the mall is better because it's got other places to eat and you can buy clothes, but it's an unfair comparison to begin with because I just want some freaking coffee.

Its not my fault that to compare PCs and consoles on an even playing field you have to cut out most of the PCs abilities. That just means the PC is better as a whole.
Of course the PC is better as a whole, Jesus. The question "what do you get first if you have neither, a PC or a console" is so blatantly obvious it's ridiculous that the thread would be based around it. You cut out the PC's abilities because that's a given, people have PC's and they will continue to have them regardless of consoles, talking about the non-gaming potential they have is utterly irrelevant to their comparison as gaming platforms. Nobody here is saying "do I buy a gaming PC or no PC at all?" The question is: is the upgrade worth it or should I get a console instead?

Sometimes it is, sometimes it's not.

But that being said, not all computer-owners have consoles, and it was actually quite possible to get a computer that out performed a console before it came out, and it still is. All you need to have to out perform any console and future console now is
32Gbs of Ram
A 2gb Vram card possibly with 2 in crossfirex or SLI
a cpu rated to at least 4.0 ghz
64 Bit Win7
of course that is really pricy but it will outshine any console and the new ps4 and 720. It would be able to run any game.

The biggest problem I have ran into with consoles is that they can get pretty outdated really fast especially when comparing them to PC components. And to fix or change anything on a console will void the warranty.

So your stuck with:
Should I buy a PC that i can ultimately fix if it breaks down
or should I buy a console that will require a lot of screwing around to fix it if it breaks.
I say this because my Xbox broke down got the E-74 error. And I didnt want to F with it so I just upgraded my PC and eventually bought a PS3

Im going to go with a console. I have a PS3 and an XBOX 360. I feel that its more secure. If I buy a game from a store I KNOW that I am receiving the correct game and I am 100% sure that I will get to play it. If the game is scratched somehow, I can take it back and get it fixed. On a PC I am not entirely sure If I am going to get to play a game I download. You cant return a download as for as I know. I also know 100% that Im not going to be cheated of my money or my credit card be stolen on a console. On the Internet so many things could happen that could steal your credit card numbers or just take you of your money.

One Word: Steam, so many people use it and it has so many games you can get, hell i have 40 games, and they are the games i want, and my cards haven't been stolen. Plus steam has all the classics you can't play on any new console that are fun as hell.

I understand that steam is a reliable source to download things but not every one can get access to it. I have nothing against PC games, some of them are great fun like DayZ. I just feel like going with the Console would be more reliable and secure than using the internet to download a game. I can wait for PC games to come out on console (if they ever do) than get one on my computer.

Actually Steam is insanely reliable and accessible wherever you are, unless you're like in Kosovo or somewhere bizarre.

I guess you're entitled to your opinion, but downloading through Steam, for instance, is pretty reliable and secure, and really easy too. And there's nothing preventing you from physically purchasing PC games like you do console games. I don't see how there's a difference in that front.

There are areas in the US that Steam has problems with. I live in the middle of nowhere, and several of my friends and I have tried Steam several times on several different PCs, but for some reason Steam doesn't agree with the server our area's Internet connects too. We get a server error every time.

Apparently you've never heard that the PS3 network has been hacked a few times. And you need the internet for pretty much any DLC out there, and in my personal opinion, I dont feel like I am getting the full effect unless I have the DLC. And when it comes to that nonsense you are saying about online purchasing not being secure, its one of the most secure things if your using websites that are actually legit. Like Amazon, Steam, Windows, Itunes. Millions of people can't lie

Really? I wouldn't have expected that. Back here in Brazil I've never had any huge problems. I won't say I've never got kicked from a Portal 2 server a couple times due to connection problems on my end, but Steam itself never seemed anything less than solid and reliable.

And yes, like Mr_Sand said, the internet is still very much a factor if you're getting console games due to updates and DLC and PSN and whatnot.

Actually, another thing is your internet speed. Myself, I don't have the best internet speed at home. I usually get 75 KiB/s. When my brothers are on Netflix I average a petty 25 KiB/s. Not adequate speed to download a game off of steam. But on the other hand, at school, I average 280 KiB/s, which is good for downloading things. Its another factor why I prefer the console, because of my crappy internet I don't want to spend 3, 4+ hours downloading a game that wouldn't near take that long on a Console.
