to add a friend you need to click on their name and it will say add friend right there on the screen

I hope you have tried following the link provided by GhostOfHorror. The section mentioning how to add a friend is in the section called Frequently asked questions.

All you need to do is go to a user's page and click the green button on the top right of their profile:

This adds that particular user to your friends list.
