I haven't played it for a while, but I think I found car batteries in warehouses and hardware stores. As for regular batteries, I can't remember if they can be found there too.

To get batteries just scavenge in areas that have components listed as loot (example:-Warehouse, Hardware Store, Office) and for car batteries you can loot streets as well.

Looting streets will not only give the occasional weapon but also a few batteries...

Trying to find those stupid car batteries has been annoying. I manage to find lots of regular batteries but the car batteries suck.

reg. batteries: offices mostly
car batteries: NO CLUE!!! guessing streets and apparently, according to the above sources, hardware stores and offices.

Offices though!? that makes little sense.

Actually you can find more car batteries in streets than in warehouses or hardware stores

car batteries in the streets of the 1st town over for me and regular batteries are in offices and hardware stores
