Public transport in Australia generally doesn't. Not very well anyway.

In fact, both my carbon footprint and cost-effectiveness improves if I drive to work (5 minutes) as opposed to take the tram (20 minutes plus waiting because it's always late). The only way I could be more efficient is if I rode to work and... well, naaaaaah.



This is my 1998 Citroen Xsara 1.8L, the same template which marked the beginning of Citroen's significant success in the WRC. Except this one doesn't go, it doesn't stop, and it doesn't turn. Its 4 speed auto transmission belongs to the stone ages and so does its naturally aspirated L4 8 valve engine, which also drinks premium (95RON minimum) like a fish. The FF layout renders the car's weight distribution so unbalanced that it either understeers horribly or the back skips out, depending on what the car feels like doing at the time. Being French, as it ages it also gets more temperamental, so if I push the gas pedal further than a third of the way, the engine misfires. I no longer use the air conditioner because if I do, the car doesn't make it up the hill.

There's a big fat dent in the front left quarterpanel from when I bumped another old bomb while turning on a busy intersection 4 years ago. The roof has hail damage. The power window switch housing broke many years ago, and since the Xsara's a discontinued model, the only way to get it fixed is to fork out 350 bucks to get a custom mold made in France and import the part. There are no handles to wind the front windows up or down manually.

Why am I driving it then? Well it's been in the family for what, 13 years. I'm the 5th person to drive it, and I've been driving it for 5 years now. Its chief advantages are that the seats are supremely comfortable, and no doubt related to the crap driving dynamics, so is the ride. It was also sold at a time when aftermarket audio was all the rage, so it still has a better audio system (plus sub) than just about any stock audio you can find in most cars now. And because it's still old, I can drive it as hard as it's capable of driving and not really care, so I've learnt lots of advanced driving techniques in it haha.

Thing is I might pass it back to my brother (the 4th driver) coz he's moving back in, and then I'll have to get another car. But what...

My '89 Chevy Blazer k5, envy of rednecks worldwide. You haven't lived until a dude pulls up to you on the highway and yells at you "what year is that!".

Unfortunately, it ain't running at the moment. I'm going to have to shell out 250 for a new fuel pump. When it does run, I love it. It feels so smooth and no other vehicle has felt right to me.

Well, you know. my family owns a bentley and couple ferraris. Nothin' much. Just kidding. We have a Ford Flex and a Mazda... 3? The flex is 2009 I think and the Mazda is fairly recent. 2010-2012, I would say. We bought it used this past summer. Before that, My dad owned a crappy old '96 Taurus. When we traded it, the guys at the dealer told us the transmissions were almost dead, and that we traded it in just in time.

Bought it at a garage sale, was in the back of this guy's shed. While it was in his possesion it experienced a bad hail storm that shattered the windshield, tail lights and both side mirrors. We bought it for $500 then started fixing it up. To get it started all we needed was a battery(even though the gas was bad so it didn't run that well ). We then had to replace the brake cable due to alot of corosion, which took a week to find the right part for it. Next was the windshield and mirrors. We then got new covers for the tail lights off of Ebay. It isn't too bad of a car for only having a 4 cylinder "Iron Duke", the only engine avaible on Fiero's in '84. It currently has about 128,000 miles. When every we get the time we will completely restore it.

My Renault Express. It's not my picture, but it looks quite similar. It's quite old (around 20 years-old), but it's still working and, for some strange reason, I prefer to drive this rather than other modern cars.

@Bronze: I know that feeling. I've lost count of how many times people have asked me the same question.
