It is the early 4th millennium. After humanity conquered the galaxy and all other races in it in the 3rd millennium it reigned supreme over the stars, in peace. But power leads to corruption and so humanity was consumed by a horrible civil war bringing upon an apocalypse. Many colonies were completely destroyed and those that survived stumbled back into darkness. It took 500 years for the first human ship to travel to other stars again, but now, almost a century later humanity has reconquered the galaxy. But there is no more unity in the Human race, and once again humanity is on the brink of a horrifying war.

--------------------

Heroes of the galaxy is, like my other forum game âHeroes of Irridiaâ an open world-ish rpg, meaning that you can do pretty much whatever you want and there is no story set in stone (they will form around you as you go on). In this game you can command ships, fly fighters, trade, explore, reign, fight or whatever you want. The outcome of your actions will also be dependent mostly on your character stats. (there is no: one good and one bad option situation).

Factions:
(What faction you choose decides your starting location)
There are 4 major factions in the galaxy and 2 minor ones. You can be part of any of them:

Galactic Federation:
The biggest nation in the galaxy. It is a giant federated republic that values law and freedom. It is governed by a huge Parliament and each of its segments, sectors, subsectors and systems is in turn governed by smaller Parliament that send representatives to the capital. Their ships are heavier armed and armored than other factions ships but are generally more expensive and are slower than other factionâs ships. They have a smaller Navy compared to their size but have the highest count of dreadnoughts and their ships are generally the best equipped. They also emphasize broadside combat. As such they have specialized Broadside ships. Their weapons are mostly energy based (laser, phaser, blaster)
They are an enemy of the SUS (though not in open war at the moment) and relations with the SolForce Renegades are flawed. They are allied with the SolForce

The SUS (Socialist Union of Systems)
The second largest nation of the galaxy. It is, like the name says, a socialist republic that values unity and devotion to the fatherland. It is governed by a system of councils that act as legislative, executive and judicative. Their ships are generally balanced and emphasize all around combat. They have the biggest navy of all factions but their ships are generally less equipped. Their weapons are mostly particle or ion based
They are an enemy of the Federation(though not in open war at the moment) and relations with the SolForce is flawed. They are allied with the SolForce Renegates

SolForce:
The SolForce was the first starfaring human nation but they became a secondary power after the great apocalypse that threw the galaxy back into the stone age. They are a meritocratic centralized Republic, basically governed by corporations. Their ships are less armored or armed but have generally better scanners or other electronic warfare devices. They also have a higher percentage of shielded ships. They also emphasize front facing combat. Their weapons are mostly projectile based. (Cannons/Mass accelerators)
They are an enemy of the SolForce Renegades (though not in open war at the moment) and relations with the SUS are flawed. They are allied with the Federation

SolForce Renegades (officially Free SolForce or FSF):
They are a rebellious faction that split from the SolForce in the Reconquering Wars. They wanted to free the Citizens of the SolForce from the tyranny of the corporations how they called it, but corruption in the highest ranks of the revolution and other causes caused the Renegades to stumble into a military socialist dictatorship. Their navy is similar to that of the SolForce due to the shared history until recent times.

There are also 2 minor factions:

Free Colonies:
A loose conglomerate of Planets without a real central government. They are composed of men and women who wanted to flee whatever they felt to be oppression. They formed after the Reconquering Wars and settled in the no-manâs land that was formed between the SUS and the Federation. Their ships are lighter armored than other ships and have weaker weapons but are faster and have more cargo space. They have generally good relations to the other factions.

Pirate Fleet:
Not as much a state as the lack thereof. A very loose and basically lawless faction. They have no real government. Their âcitizensâ are a ragtag bunch of misfits that didnât fit anywhere else. They donât really have a navy as all ships (and colonies) are privately owned, and their ships are most of the time stolen from other factions or built with stolen blueprints.

Classes: You choose one primary, and 2 secondary classes. With this you can create new rolls. For example, a Soldier with a commander secondary class can be the leader of a small mercenary group, or an Engineer with a trader secondary class can be an Asteroid miner. You will level up in them separately and they will determine how good you will be at tasks that the class is specialized in. You will also level up in those classes for performing those tasks, e.g.: if you shoot somebody you get soldier xp and your soldier level determines the hit chance. Your class choices also determine your starting equipment. You will receive the Inventory of your primary class and the secondary items of your secondary classes.
(You will get 3 levels in your main class and one in your minor classes and each level will increase the chance that something will work generally by 5%)

Commander: You are a graduate of a navy academy and are now an officer. You are specialized in commanding ships or troops or in performing tasks as a officer on a bridgeâs ship (weapon officer, comm. Officer and so on)
Inventory: Comfortable Clothes, Formal Wear, Saber (ceremonial graduation gift) and Ballistic Pistol (30 bullets), Advanced Commanding Interface (including AI Adjudant) 500 Credits (=500,000 Chids) (so you can buy a ship)
Secondary Item: Handheld Commanding Station (including AI Adjudant)

Soldier: Actually more of a mercenary than a soldier, you can work for the military or at for private investors. You are a ground trooper. Fighting with rifles handguns or anything you have. You are specialized in⦠well shooting things. Every 3 levels also give you 1 bonus HP.
Inventory: Comfortable Clothes, main weapon ( Ballistic Sniper Rifle (25 bullets), Ballistic Assault Rifle (150 bullets), Ballistic Shotgun (40 bullets) or Ballistic LMG (300 Bullets) , Ballistic pistol (75 bullets), Body armor (+ 1HP), 1,000 Chids, Combat Knife, 2 MREs
Secondary Item: Ballistic SMG (150 Bullets)
Engineer: You are an engineer, either on the ground or on a ship. You are specialized in repairing and building hardware⦠and strangely in fighting space monsters
Inventory: Comfortable Clothes, Jumpsuit, Engineering Omni Tool, Knife, 1,000 Chids
Secondary Item: Repairing Omni Tool

Scientist: You are a scientist. Science is a wide field but I donât want to do too many classes. You can be an analytic on a ship, a researcher , an explorer, an archeologist or any other scientist. And you are specialized in tasks connected to those professions.
Inventory: Comfortable Clothes, Lab Coat, Datapad, Scientific Equipment, 2,000 Chids
Secondary Item: Chemical Equipment

Doctor: You are a doctor, in the medical sense. You can be a medic or a surgeon in the army or a doctor in the hospital. You are specialized in treating people
Inventory: Comfortable Clothes, Lab Coat, Datapad, Surgical/Medical Equipment, 2,000 Chids
Secondary Item: Medical Kit

Operator: You are an operator of âsmallâ machines and vehicles like ship turrets, Cars, Tanks, Fighters, Shuttles and so on and are specialized in using those
Inventory: Comfortable Clothes, Ballistic Pistol (30 bullets), 12,000 Chids
Secondary Item: NA

Helmsman: You are the âpilotâ of bigger ships. Basically everything bigger than a corvette, (around 60 meters long) and are specialized in piloting those.
Inventory: Comfortable Clothes, Ballistic Pistol (30 bullets), 12,000 Chids
Secondary Item: NA

Runner: You are very fast and agile and can run and jump, can be a courier a cat burgler or maybe a parkour athlete and are specialized in jumping, running, climbing and stuff like that.
Inventory: Comfortable Clothes, Ballistic Pistol (30 bullets), Lockpicking Equipment, Knife, Dark Clothes, Automatic Grappling Hook, 1,000 Chids
Secondary Item: Small Automatic Grappling Hook

Trader: You are a merchant, you sell and buy, and maybe fly around in a spaceship, thatâs about it. However, there is of course the possibility of pirates or asteroid fields, so things wonât get boring. You are of course specialized in buying and selling goods, but also in getting better results in mining asteroids.
Inventory: Comfortable Clothes, Datapad, 700 Credits
Secondary Item: 200 Credits

(Credits and Chids are both Currency. 1000 Chids are 1 Credits.)

Lastly, you can choose what type of world you want to start on, a core or a rim world, industrial or more rural, small or big colony, backwater or regional center? Or even the Homeworld of your faction? (The Free Colonies and The Pirate Fleet do not have a home world)

I head for the mercenary tower. It would be preferable if I can find a fighter squadron unit who's hiring.

I nod my thanks and head outside the bar, looking for a store that sells datapads.

Are my dark clothes supposed to be in my inventory or my armor?

draick:
You go outside and soon find an electronics store. You enter. You are greeted by a robotic shopclerc "welcome, what can i do for you?"
(the dark clothes are in your inventory when you don't wear them and your armor when you do (they are for your nightly "adventures", when you don't want to be seen))
