i personal dont believe it but many groups have predicted it ex: mayans, hopi indians, the bible St Malachy predicted the world will end with the 112th pope; pope bendict is our 111th pope. Why would all these people predict the same date?
It's pointless arguing this topic from/against a christian perspective... the argument always comes back to "it's in the bible", which (as I've stated previously) makes a poor argument. The bible (and the whole concept of god, religion, etc.) is unfalsifiable, in that there is no concrete proof one way or another and it's viability cannot be tested.
Astronomy, of course, has the benefit of being not only testable, but observable, meaning they can see these things happening in the cosmos, and they can estimate a rough period when it's likely the world will end, and they say it isn't 2012. If other more biblical information or evidence comes forward, I'd be willing to regard it with the same consideration I'd give to any other phenomena, but so far such a thing has not happened.
Additionally, I think we can discuss this civilly and without namecalling; it doesn't prove you're right and doesn't move the debate along at all.
well let me tell you something are does Christian people that come to your house every week and ask to join their Church and believe in God - so your saying they are zombies trying to make you believe in things right?
never knew Christians are brainwashed zombies making you believe in things
ASK. You missed your own word there, were asking you to believe because if you don't you go to hell, sorry to put it point blank but there it is.

Except for the miracles the bible is proven facts, actauly it's one of the most factual writings from that time period. Sorry for the double post.

those people pick to do that and they are called missionary's also they are trying to save YOUR life and are against it WHY?

A) from which time period? the bible was not written in biblical times B) there is not enough factual, tangible evidence to prove anything which happened within the pages of said book are indeed facts. C) Using the bible to prove the bible is true is what's called "begging the question", I'm certain I've mentioned this before... you cannot use the thing you're trying to prove as proof of itself. It's like saying "Of course Harry Potter's real, it says so in Harry Potter", which, of course, is ridiculous. It makes for a weak and unsubstantiated argument.
The world's not going to end on 12/21/12. Yes, it is very weird that on that day, all the planets in the solar system will be aligned, and that it's the end of the myan calander, and the the bible says small stuff about it(little to nothing). It's all just a big coincidence. That and all the Mayans were psychic, yep psychic. *Sarcasm*
The world will keep going until the sun goes supernova. Of course, human beings will be long extinct by then.
The world will keep going until the sun goes supernova.
that's like saying the world will end in 2012? lol, we will never know if that really is gonna happen because human beings will be long extinct by then.
Save me from hell? Who said i wnat to go to heaven in the firtst place, upstuck christians masturbating to god...I rather goto hell t b h

Prove your first statement. Ever thing recorded in the bible including the darkness while jesus hung on the cross is recorded by sources that weren't christian or partial to a religion. Moses was a real man, and i believe the plagues in Egypt were recored...by egyptians. About your third statement that was writen as fiction the bible was writen as truth, also show me where hogwarts is.

dude your a complete brainwashed person, how do you even know its like that in hell? and don't tell me the bible says so because I want some hard evidence
rougie@ you should get merits for your comments no one can prove you wrong lol
The bible was not written in biblical times: stories were told, and it wasn't for centuries afterwards that people decided (or rather, had the resources) to conglomerate and record all these stories. Unfortunately, that leaves a lot of room for changes, so the stories IN the bible may not be the original stories told from the time period in which they took place. Also, the bible was revised and re-written by King James during his reign of England (hence King James bible, a.k.a new testament) and I haven't heard of any surviving copies from before this revision. Printing books was a painstaking process at that time, it would take monks an entire lifetime just to finish one book (before Gutenburg presses). I'm a history major though, so if I hear of any I'll be sure to let everyone know.
And actually, a lot of the things written in the old testament are being contested now. For instance, I've read that Jewish slaves were never used in Pyramid-building labour; it was considered an honour to construct these temples for the pharaohs, and such a task would not be bestowed upon a slave, but rather the most skilled and dedicated workmen. I take another religions course next semester, so I'm sure I'll learn lots more on that subject (I hope so anyways, it's fantastically interesting). The bible is a very influential book (obviously), and is of great importance because of the significance it has in world history, but I would not consider it a source of factual data.
