Today is "Ask An Atheist" day, an opportunity for atheists to dispel stereotypes and answer honest questions.
"National Ask An Atheist Day is an opportunity for secular groups across the country to work together to defeat stereotypes about atheism and encourage courteous dialogue between believers and nonbelievers alike. The event is intended to be an opportunity for the general public - particularly people of faith - to approach us and ask questions about secular life. It is our hope that encouraging participation on a national level will raise awareness of the event and We're encouraging all SSA affiliate groups to participate at whatever level they are able!" http://www.secularstudents.org/askanatheistday
"A couple of years ago on National Ask An Atheist Day, a high school studentâs mother was so offended that atheists were answering questions during lunch periods that she removed her kids from school that day⦠because nothing scares religious parents more than the thought of kids getting their questions about faith answered by people who arenât going to feed them the standard church lines.
Look at it this way: If someone came up to you and started talking about basket weaving on and on and on, mentioning their basket weaving club, what activities they do there, how certain baskets are better than others, would that annoy you?
Except "basket weaving is fun and you should join" =/= "I believe that you'll deserve eternal torture if you don't join the club." That's the part that annoys me the most. It seems like a pyramid scheme where they tell you your leg is broken in order to sell you a crutch.
I'm athestis because there is no heaven nor hell only DMT, a drug in the brain that is released to form dreams so if you die you will hallucinating Jesus, Buddha or even the devil.
KnightDeclan, this is probably the best thread for you. It's not intended for debate. This is where you can ask anything about atheists and we'll answer you. This thread is basically, "What are Atheists?"
