So me and my friend have been working on a game and recently we made it so far that we decided to launch a Kickstarter. Last Jungle In Sector 17 is a new take on the traditional top-down view space shooter with added RTS elements, some of the games we relate to are SPAZ, Star Control and classic Asteroids.

I wouldn't say we are doing anywhere near great as of now on Kickstarter, I'm doubting that we even reach the goal. We wanted to go in safe, small goal, playable demo (with easy access to it), reasonable backer rewards... I noticed the small visibility right after launch, but following a post on Reddit I calmed down a little. Well 10 days later we are still struggling to get attention, I sent out a letter to 65+ gaming news sites - 1 responses as of now (0 articles), also sent a review request to about 100 Youtubers who do review videos - got 2 'first impressions' vids. In that 10 days we have managed to get 3,369 video views (3000 of them in the first 2 days after launch) and 45 people have backed the project.

We have done all the regular: Homepage, Greenlight, Demo, Facebook, Twitter, Forum posts, IndieDB... We have gotten some good response from people who have tried out the game, but I guess it is just too average of a game.

Are the news outlets avoiding Kickstarter projects because the market is so over saturated or are people turned off when they hear the words "Flash game"? Either way our "Indie Dream" is slowly turning into "Indie Reality" which is fine, definitely smarter now and in the future. I still think that Flash is a great platform, maybe the testament to that should be the number of Flash games out there.

Well, let us know what are your thouhgts on all this and what you think of the game

Due to popular demand we are now featuring controls relative to the screen. So check them out and let us know which you like best: http://ljis17.com/prototype/

Great game! Just keep putting your names out there, eventually you'll start to get a small fan base.

Not my kind of game, however, liked it.

Hey, thanks for the feedback.

I also have some news - today we launched a contest titled "Write your name into video game history". Basically we are giving one lucky person a chance to write an entire new campaign for our game, check it out here: http://ljis17.com/contest/

is a new take on the traditional top-down view space shooter

Tip: Don't say something like this without at least hinting at how it is a "new take". I understand you may not want to outright state how so, as to leave an air of mystery around it, but you should at least give a hint (even a completely vague one would suffice). Leaving it like this is bland, and is the same pitch hundreds of other people are using for their game for x genre.

Mind you, you guys are not a well known group of person..so gaining attention on yourself won't be easy. Taken the step to send out your game to places like this is potentially a great step, given that you did so properly.

Now, explaining what the proper way is would be foolish, as their is no one proper way. However, I can say that an improper way would be something along the lines of "So ok! So like we made this awesome game, like really really awesome game, and it is going to like BLOW PEOPLE'S MINDS. Could you like please review it and stuff because that would be so awesome and we think this game is so deserving to it. Please!"

Of course, one may not write it exactly like that...but if you do something similar (as in, beg the person to ask)..no matter how fancy or well spoken you make it, that is how it will come off.

I'm not saying this is how you asked, just dropping that in. I am curious as to how you did ask them..would you mind dropping in an example?

I'm a youtuber myself. Albeit, not a famous one. Have you ever gotten any of those Private Messages from people asking you to "check out [their] channel!" etc. etc.? Doing this can come off as that. So, basically just reread what I said pertaining to the game news places.

Also, a lot of Youtubers have at least a general idea of what games they are going to be reviewing, and have this idea usually for sometime.

or are people turned off when they hear the words "Flash game"?

This could be quite the possibility. Keep in mind, there are still many many people that play Flash games...and many that do so regularly...but the industry is definitely not as popular as it was a couple years ago.

Thank you for the feedback pangtongshu.

As our campaign is ending I wanted to write about our experience, it can be read here:
