The Beginning
You grew up in the small village of Chiakor, a remote village with rich traditions, buried deep in the wilds.
Every year for as long as you can remember, your village has chosen a champion to send to the cursed Demon Realm.

Legend has it that in years Chiakor has failed to produce a champion, chaos has reigned over the countryside. Children disappear, crops wilt, and disease spreads like wildfire. This year, you have been selected to be the champion.

Character Creation
What is your name, Champion?
Male or Female?
If your are male, are you lean, average, or thick?
If female, are you slender, average, or curvy?
What is your skin color; light, olive, dark, or ebony?
What color is your hair, and how long?

Stats for the game include:
Strength - Increases your damage and enables the Strong Back perks if high enough.
Toughness - Increases your health points and enables the Tank and Regeneration perks if high enough.
Speed - Increases you chances to evade attacks, certain encounters and to run from a fight. Also enables the Evasion and Runner perks if high enough.
Intelligence - Increase the chance to withstand certain encounters. Spells are also easier to learn and cast.
Corruption - Shows how corrupt you've become since entering the Demon Realm. If high enough, you won't be known as the nice guy anymore. Nice thoughts and actions will be harder to perform if corruption becomes too high. Anger rises a lot faster when more corrupt.
Fatigue - Determines whether or not skills and spells can be used. Waiting, resting, and sleeping reduce fatigue.
Hit points - Your life. If it reaches 0, your enemy will find a way to corrupt your mind or body in some way, adding to your corruption.

Every person is born with a gift. What's yours?
Strength - Are you stronger than normal? +5 to strength
Toughness - Are you unusually tough? +5 to toughness
Speed - Are you very quick? +5 to speed
Smarts - Are you a quick learner? +5 to intelligence
Endurance - Are you energetic? Recover from fatigue 50% faster

Before you became a champion, you had other plans for your life. What were you doing before?
Alchemy - You spent some time as an alchemist's assistant, and alchemical items always seem to be more reactive in your hands. You are much more successful at making concoctions than the normal person, and can make others much more potent.
Fighting - You spent much of your time fighting other children, and you had plans to find work as a guard when you grew up. You do 10% more damage with physical attacks.
Healing - You often spent your free time with the village healer, learning how to tend to wounds. Healing items and effects are 20% more effective.
Religion - You spent a lot of time at the village temple, and learned how to meditate. Meditating will reduce corruption.
Schooling - You spent much of your time in school, and even begged the richest man in town, Mr. Savin, to let you read some of his books. You are much better at focusing, and spellcasting uses 20% less fatigue.
Slacking - You spent a lot of time slacking, avoiding work, and otherwise making a nuisance of yourself. Your efforts at slacking have made you quite adept at resting, and fatigue decreases 20% faster.
Smithing - You managed to get an apprenticeship with the local blacksmith. Because of your time spent at the blacksmith's side, you've learned how to fit armor for maximum protection. Increases armor effectiveness by roughly 10%.

Feel free to ask questions, and have fun if you decide to try! Also, this game is story driven, and every person will have a similar story line, so if you don't want anything spoiled, don't look at others posts. This could also be good for people not playing and reading what happens to see what differences the players actions are and other things.

She continues to kneel before you expectantly. You suppose you could give her an order - perhaps something humorous, or perhaps something serious - or maybe just talk to her, though as yet she seems a bit... odd.

"H-help!"

You turn with a start as a woman bursts through the bushes, flinging herself into your arms. It looks like she's been roughed up a bit - her simple peasant's robes are torn and frayed, and her forehead has a few smudges where it appears as though she was dragged through the dirt.

"Th-thank goodness! Please, you must help me!" she cries, darting around to take shelter behind you. "I was out picking wild berries, and, and... the wretched, terrible little things attacked me!"

You are about to question her, but are interrupted as an imp flies out of the thicket, growling and clawing at you menacingly. At least... clearly it's trying to be menacing. The melodramatic display comes off as more hilarious than anything, but the woman cowering behind you obviously feels threatened, so you might as well deal with the pest.

You nod.

"Hmm." He turns his head to speak to himself. His mumbling to himself goes on and on for a few minutes. A few times during the argument with himself, his voice raised quite a bit, allowing you to hear a couple of words every now and then.

Finally, he turns back around to say, "Welcome to Giacomo's traveling store! You can start right now!" His grin still creeps you out.

I ask Lumi if she knows of any other places besides the desert, mountains, lake, and forest, and offer five gems for every map she can give me. If she doesn't know any other locations, then I return to my camp and pick up my sword. I then go in the direction that's inbetween the forest and the lake.

There is no specific layout, mainly because you can think about somewhere to teleport which makes the directions of the places insignificant for the most part.

I ask Lumi if she knows of any other places besides the desert, mountains, lake, and forest, and offer five gems for every map she can give me.


She confirms your suspicions that she doesn't know any other places.

If she doesn't know any other locations, then I return to my camp and pick up my sword. I then go in the direction that's in between the forest and the lake.


You end up having to walk into the forest to get to where you want to go, since the wall of trees go on for quite some time. Eventually, you figure out that the edge of the forest that seems to be the east end meets the lake, but there is still quite some distant between the massive lake and the edge of the forest. There doesn't seem to be anything here in between, except a small plot of open land.

"Master grew tired of me. Still, she did not want me stolen."

"Your last master?"

"Who was. . . she?"

"She was. . . Master."

"Fine," you sigh. Apparently she doesn't want to tell you, and you don't feel like pressing the issue just yet. "In that case, what happened here?"

Suddenly, Aglaia breaks the stare and looks away, as if in shame. "The demons' doom that even now blights Mareth took its toll here, too. The people of a town no longer here believed they were safe under Marae's roof. Protected. Their faith was. . . misplaced."

It seems the events that led to the cathedral's destruction weigh heavily on Aglaia's heart.

I keep on walking in that direction until I find something of significance or get really tired, thirsty, or hungry. No matter the outcome, I make sure to memorize my current location. If I was tired, thirsty, or hungry, then I teleport to Whitney's farm and eat some peppers. If I am really thirsty, I ask to drink a little of the milk. I then return to my camp and sleep.

Ignoring your demand, he lunges in for an attack. Being the superior being here, you easily defeat him with almost no fight at all. It was almost too easy...

"Oh, thank you, thank you! I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't come along."

As the imp falls at your feet, you lower your giant stick and turn to the grateful woman. Beating down an imp is really nothing special, but you were glad to be of assistance, and tell her as much with a friendly smile.

"My hero!" she swoons, beaming. "Oh, if there's anything I can do to repay you, please, tell me!"

You find yourself gazing deep into her eyes, a dim haze entering your mind as you are drawn deeper and deeper into the glistening green pools. The corners of her lips curl into a broad smile as she starts to step toward you, and for a moment you swear you can see a subtle change in her. You rub your eyes, certain they are playing tricks on you, slowly following the gentle sway of her six tails as she strolls up to you.

Wait.

You push her away, almost cracking your head open as you stumble over a stump. Now that you have broken free of her sorcery, you can see her for what she is. A pair of large triangular fox ears poke up from her back-length, flaxen hair, six luxuriously furred tails fanning out behind her.

"So, you saw through my glamour did you? That's quite impressive..." she says, teasing you with her tails. You back away from her, but give a start and wheel around when you feel yourself bump into something.

"Going somewhere?"

How did she get behind you so quickly? You were staring at her the entire time! Glancing quickly over your shoulder, you confirm that this is not a case of twins, but when you turn to face her, she has disappeared once again!

"Over here, silly~" she calls to you with a mischievous tone, beckoning to you as you whip around to face her voice. "Don't be shy, I don't bite... often..."

Her tone is innocuous enough, but her mannerisms are a little disconcerting, somehow. What are you going to do?

You end up walking into the forest again, since there was no other way to keep progressing without having to swim in the lake.

You progress deeper into the forest, eventually finding darker, taller, and thicker trees. After the short travel, you've ended up finding the deepwoods.

I then return to my camp and sleep.


You wake up at 6:00, like always.

Your campsite is fairly simple at the moment. Your tent and bedroll are set in front of the rocks that lead to the portal. You have a small fire pit as well. You have a number of traps surrounding your makeshift home, but they are fairly simple and may not do much to deter a demon. The portal shimmers in the background as it always does, looking menacing and reminding you of why you came.

You two travel for quite some time. You struggle immensely with tugging the cart around everywhere, tiring you out and making you fatigued quite a bit. Giacomo makes fun a couple times, and constantly pushes you to keep on tugging, but after two hours, you've gotten completely exhausted.

Luckily, however, before Giacomo got too frustrated, you two finally came across another traveler.

Your very thankful for the convenience since you can now rest for a while while Giacomo tries to sell his wares.

About twenty minutes of convincing has passed, and Giacomo has finally sold a few items to the traveler.

He returns to the cart and your fatigued self, and says, "How about you go home. Meet me by the edge of the forest whenever you want to help out. Plus, it looks like it'll give you quite a workout." he teases, poking your bicep.
