As a male, I can't say I am very educated about feminism, maybe I could be enlightened by somebody. But there is something I have noticed is happening that is very wrong.
I am all for equality for women, and womens rights, but feminism seems to be getting used in the wrong way, from what I've seen. In jobs where the employer believes there are not enough women, women are being targeted to be hired. THe problem is, these women are being hired over higher qualified men, because they are female. Maybe women are not in that job because they don't want to be. This practice of hiring women over men is exactly the opposite of equality. And results in INequality, does it not?
I don't claim to know alot about feminism, but I do know when I see something that is wrong.
I think that feminism (and machism) is completely stupid. We both have equal rights, the male and the female. If we get paid less is because we dont do things right and need to train. But hey,if the male in question suc** at the job, the female is better and the male gets more cash thats the boss's problem. If you dont like the job quit it. And as a last factor,if the female get paid less she would find a job quicker... So yeah,it is used improperly.
I'm pretty tired right now so its kinda hard to think, and sound really smart like all these guys, but I'll just put it this way.Woman don't want to be treated like guys, but they do want to be paid like guys.Plenty of people have complained about this before, including alot of comedians, such as carlos mencia. My point is I feel like a broken record record here, but here I go complaining about something, does not resolve anything, only action does. The problem is what type of action needs to be taken.
Equal rights under the law is just one part of our idea of "equality." Professionally and athletically, women get far less respect for their achievements (and often far less compensation).
i wouldn't get paid to have sex with anybody.......
I wouldn't say the feminism is used improperly - I've ever seen it used improperly in the work place, and the only real thing that is more likely to secure a female getting a job over a male is breasts, and I don't begrudge them that :P
I think that the feminism described in the first page is the momentum energy from the "women's rights" movements in the start of end of the 19th century. I'm all for "Womens rights", like voting, workplaces, ect, but then the womens sexuall superiority comes into play and the men will give women "favors", like work, so that she will, in the theoretical future, have sex with said man. The main problem in society, at least from this point of view, is that whem a woman has *** with a man, it is thought of as if she is doing him a favor, and sometimes the man has to "ay" for it. I think the first page of the thread summs uo the whole discussion.
I have no problem at all with first and second wave feminism. It is indeed an admirable goal to seek civil rights and spiritual self fulfilment outside of the home. However, I don't like the exclusive kind of feminism, which tells me I am not a feminist simply because I am a man.
However, the kind of positive discrimination as outlined in the OP isn't of this nature. Most 3rd wave and Post feminists want completely androgyneous societies and abhor the idea of women being placated by a patriarchal society seeking only to undermine their sexual consciousness further, in this case by economic means. It is much more likely these schemes of positive discrimination are being championed by bien pensant liberals in their crusade for political correctness. Nevertheless it would be nice to see a link from the thread creator so we know exactly where and how this is happening, otherwise I am afraid I cannot comment further on the matter.
I think people do use it improperly just like blacks and Hispanics use their race as a crutch, not all do but it certainly does exist. Women deserve equal rights for sure, but as was said we don't deserve a double standard!

Yeah I would like more of an example of what they had seen. I guess also, putting aside gender.. more qualifications doesn't always make you better for the job.
