Though PsychoIncarnate Douglas Adams has said it has nothing to do with base 13 it's just a random number (the most random number he could think of) and super fans have tried to find reasoning to it. Thanks for explaining it though.

It actually IS 42 in base 13 though, which is really freaky. Especially with some other things in the book which gives you the impression the universe itself bases itself on base 13.
