It's definitely off to a good start. I don't know what happened the first time, but somehow I ended up with around 1018 coins when I entered the upgrade booth, which I think could be a glitch. I took advantage of this and bought two health upgrades and a shield upgrade, and from then on I found myself collecting around 65-85 coins each round. I also found that I didn't lose a life every time I got hit with a meteor, even when I wasn't invincible. That may be worth looking into.
This game could definitely benefit from a few additional in-game upgrades, such as an upgrade that slows down meteors, or one that speeds up the speed of the player, or even a coin magnet that becomes stronger the more you upgrade it. The two upgrades that currently exist don't quite go together by themselves. Rather, one is far more difficult to max out than the other. The health one seems to be at the right difficulty to attain maximum level, but the shield one seems a bit out of reach for the difficulty and progression of this game.
With your health maxed out, the average player is going to accumulate around 100 coins each round. That means they would have to play 5 or 6 rounds in a row just to reach the first shield upgrade, and then an additional 6 or so rounds for every shield upgrade from then on. The game doesn't really progress during those rounds, and thus people could lose interest before maxing out their shield upgrade. With additional upgrades, however, players could upgrade something every few rounds, and it would get progressively easier to acquire coins each round, to the point where shooting for the shield upgrade would also become progressively more fun, instead of just doing the same thing over and over without any change in gameplay.
For a first game, this is beautifully made. Aside from a few little bugs here and there, the quality is almost professional (and the music is perfect for it). I hope my little critique is somewhat helpful to you, as I see potential in this game, and I look forward to playing it here on AG when it's all finished. People are crazy about upgrade games these days, so this one could definitely draw that crowd.
Thank you so much for your response, Ernie! Your comment will really help me further improve my game.
I intentionally added the 1000 coins to that you can test out the upgrades right off the bat.
And I think the reason why you weren't losing a life when getting hit by a meteor was because of the shield upgrade you've made or if you hit it only with your side and not the top of the character's head. But I think I should try to find a way to let the player know that the shield is protecting him/her.
You're definitely spot-on with the upgrade difficulty. I'll look into the balancing of that and see how I can improve it.
I'm also really taking into consideration the speed increase too. And maybe the meteor speed as well. I think I really have to add things to the upgrades that will make the players stay longer (more than just hats and backgrounds that they can buy haha).
Once again, thank you so much for this critique. This really gives me better insight into not only making Coin Apocalypse but also game development in the future.
I played it for a bit and was good at the start but I lost interest after about 20 mins.As Ernie said is down to the high cost of the shield upgrade.I wasn't sure what this did when i bought it but also noticed i didn't lose a life sometimes, when i got hit by a meteor.

I felt that 1000 coins was too much for just 2 upgrades,500-750 would have been a better number. If you do keep it at 1000 coins you need to add upgrades such as: Speed,Reduced Character Height,Slower Meteors,A slow time ability or freeze time ability and perhaps add effects for hats. These are only suggestions but I think they would make the game much better. I don't know if changing the background changes any game play but perhaps if it doesn't it should example different things falling or sloped grounds.
For a first game I thought It was very good and has lots of room to improve. If you make any changes to the game message me.
I'll definitely keep in mind the upgrades that you suggest to me. I think these will really help add to the fun of the game and purpose of playing. Thanks so much for suggesting these to me!
I'll also definitely decrease the amount of coins in the actual release of the game.
When I saw the title I thought of an awesome jumper game with an apocalypse and meteors coming from the sky destroying the world as you jump from rock to rock to avoid sinking into the lava, and also collecting tons of coins.
But it ended up being happy All hopes are crushed
Basically, the title got my hopes up and made my expectations too high, so when I went to play it I was disappointed.
