It would make more sense for it to be connected to Vitalism, although being connected to Carl Jung's school of thought is a slight possibility.
Most likely, though, it is Gantic having some fun. Although I believe we are confining our thinking process in the whole matter too much. We need to be a bit more creative and think outside of the box outside of the box.

Thatanos is the Greek god of death, if I recall correctly. Hades rules the underworld, but Thatanos is actually specifically death.
The fact that we're getting these things might have some meaning, but within the game, it has no purpose. (cough) could be playing with us, or it could be significant in some strange way. I only skimmed the last few pages, so I'm probably wrong, but it seems like whenever people openly stated what they were planning to do with their units, some were subtracted. Once, (cough) used "+--" instead of points. I'm assuming those were referring to Corey/riku's posts, and are of no consequence. I noticed "orpoises", but I thought it was a reference from something. Dolphins have some meaning, apparently. Or we're being toyed with again.
