Hello, I have been toying with the idea of a tournament between players who create their own custom medieval fantasy characters. What do I mean by this? I will lay out a series of fantasy based powers/abilities such as bow proficiency, fire magic or shapeshifting and a series of fantasy based races, such as human, elf or dwarf. Players choose a race and 3 or 4 powers. Once 8 people join they will be pitted against each other tournament style until 1 person remains, they are the winner and a new tournament begins which gives a chance for new players to join, or existing players to change their character. Do you think this is something you would play?

Alright, before we begin we have to decide a couple things.

First, we have to decide if this will be action based or turn based. If we do turn based then skills will be created by the player.

For abilities i'm leaning toward having the players choose from set powers instead of the player making their own. Here is what I have so far.

Sword Proficiency, Polearm Proficiency, Heavy Melee Weapon Proficiency, Bow Proficiency, Crossbow Proficiency, Thrown Weapon Proficiency, Magical Weapon Proficiency, Fire Magic, Water Magic, Earth Magic, Air Magic, Lightning Magic, Ice Magic, Life Magic, Death Magic, Light Magic, Shadow Magic, Arcane Magic, Poison Magic, Offensive Runes, Supportive Runes, Defensive Runes, Mammalian Shapeshifting, Reptilian Shapeshifting, Avian Shapeshifting, Monstrous Shapeshifting, Mammalian Pets, Reptilian Pets, Avian Pets, Monstrous Pets, Berserking, Stealth, Poison, Mounting.

If you can think of any more post them here. If you think players should create their powers say that too.

Finally, for races I think I will give a list of recommended races, but players can choose any race as long as it fits the theme.

Recommended Races:

Human, Forest Elf, High Elf, Dark Elf, Dwarf, Halfling, Giant, Orc, Demon, Angel, Goblin, Orc, Ogre, Troll, Zombie, Skeleton, Vampire.

How much impact does the race have on the fight dynamics? For instance a giant would fight very differently compared to, say, a goblin.

player sets>set powers in this kinds of fg imo. What does mounting do?

What does each proficiency do if they give no moves?

@HahiHa race effects stats, so a giant would have more health and armor then a goblin, but a goblin would have more speed.

@Loop_Stratos We'll let players create their powers then. Mounting allows you to ride your pets, although it's useless if you have no pets. Proficiency allows you to use that kind of weapon. Here is the list of weapons each proficiency allows:

Sword Proficiency

Dagger, Shotsword, Longsword, Greatsword

Polearm Proficiency

Spear, Pike, Halberd, Glaive, Lance

Heavy Melee Weapon Proficiency

Should there be status effects or not?

I have decided on a turn based/action based mix. You get the choice to use a skill on your turn or an action, however actions cannot be used to attack. Actions include dodging, hiding, running, etc.

Minor status effects.

I think one should be able to use a skill and do an non-offensive action in a turn.
