I can't appreciate this many idle games, especially since most of them really aren't very good and they aren't GAMES that you can actively play for fun

They exploit the psychological tendency for repetition, embedding themselves into the daily lives of people. Coupled with a superficial sense of progression in the form of levels or prestige wiping, people will continue to play idle games, whether they are more enjoyable than other games or not.
More players represent a higher potential for revenue, therefore, added with the ease of developing idle games relative to more interactive games, more idle games will be developed.
It's a phenomenon which cannot be stopped. All you can do is ignore the multitude of idle games and seek more interactive ones. But if temptation consumes you and you become addicted, maintain your self-control and don't irresponsibly waste away your money on freemium currency.
