In the last day or two Bloons TD 5 is lagging badly.. this is causing reaction delays, failed levels and very disappointing game play... I've already cleared the browser cache and reloaded the game with muted settings. What else is there to do? I have paid perks for this game and would like to be able to play at the optimal level.

Hello,

Troubleshooting a simple report of "the site" or "a game lags" is not a simple task. We need more information to go on before we can help.

There are video and network latency causes as well as possible performance issues with older games being run on newer hardware setups (to name a few). Here are some ideas that I would recommend for helping narrow down the culprit.

To get started you can look at is what your network connection looks like. Are you seeing timeouts when trying to connect or are there game pages that take longer to load than the forums? Also, how long of a difference are we talking about 10-15 seconds? Just to take a look at any network issues you can check out your speed by searching for a free Speed Test. Make sure that it's in inline with your ISP stated download/upload and if not there may be something with the network that you can try and troubleshoot. Also, are they known to throttle connections for streaming or gaming web pages (it happens less often, but some may still do this.)

For video latency, your best bet to troubleshoot these is checking your video card drivers to make sure they are up to date. Same with the Flash Player if this is a flash game. Additionally, some browser games may underperform with the hardware acceleration being enabled for Flash. You can try disabling it by r-clicking and selecting settings. Then reload the game and see if you have a noticeable change.

Other causes may be related to how long and how many browsers windows/tabs you have open. Each one uses some of your system's memory/RAM and over time that may cause some issues (depending on your system). You can check out the Task Manager and sort by name to see if you have one or more open tabs that are taking up a lot of memory. If so I'd suggest closing the browser down and then restarting it. This time try with fewer tabs open.

If you notice the game slowing when specific ads load, this can be related to a bad ad design. If this is the case and you see this always happening with an ad, please let us know!
