Holyday City Reloaded and Midas Gold Plus are not working. Specifically, Holyday City Reloaded says it loaded my save, only to send me to the language select screen followed by starting a new game. (Really scary, Holyday better not have lost my save!) Meanwhile, Midas Gold Plus is stuck on "Loading..." when that would normally take no more than a few seconds.
HCR had been working this morning. MGP had been working yesterday this time.
Hey @dietonight I spoke to Holyday about this report, and looks like things should be ok now? Not sure what might have happened, but things are working for them and for me in checking the games out. Please give them a try!
Hello. Midas Gold Plus is now loading fine. Save progress seems to have gone back a day or two, but fine, I'm just relieved the save file is there.
Unfortunately, Holyday City Reloaded is still as I wrote: It claims it's loading my save file, only to ask me for language and then send me to a new game.
Hello, as of now Holyday City Reloaded is still sending me to new game, and I don't have any response to the bug report I tried to send to Holyday.
This is a nightmare scenario that has crossed my mind for years. Game has no manual saves and as far as I know only a single cloud save that overwrites itself like once a minute or maybe more. And whenever it fails to load my save, it sends me to new game. So what if, one day, it sends me to new game and the new game manages to overwrites my actual save? I really really hope it isn't that! Or if it is that, they at least have a backup...
Have you heard anything from Holyday, @Tasselfoot ?
@Tasselfoot Hello, have you heard anything more from Holyday?
I wrote a detailed message in Discord and pinged them. All I got a was one-sentence reply. "hello you can restart your game!" which makes me wonder whether they even understood that losing all my progress and having to start from the beginning is a problem :/
As of now, it's still the same situation: The game page sends me to a new game.
Huh. That's very odd... so, the situation:
- The game hasn't had updates in years
- They say your save file corrupted
- They no longer have the tools to fix or restore a backup
- They took someone else's save file that they thoought was roughly where yours was... and applied it to your account
So, at a minimum, you SHOULD have signifncant progress tied to your account at this point. You should not have a fresh save upon loading. I'll follow up with them, again.
Hello,
There is a corrupt save file that zeroed your progress. The game is without a patch already 7 years and no-one else faces the same issue, so most probably it was an act of manipulating your data. On friday, we spent good 3 hours to reproduce your issue and we gave you a new progress, but if you still face the issue, it means that your local file still overridden our efforts. Long story short, we tried to provide as much help, but we can't help anymore. Also please avoid using channels irrelevant with your issue.
Hello, thank you both for your efforts, and sorry it hasn't worked.
I didn't know this game even had a local save, so I don't really know how it got corrupted. This was all so sudden: One morning it worked, and then when I came back from work in the early evening, it was gone. But if I had to take a guess... I have noticed "Saving..." popping up in the lower right corner for like a second or two at a time. The thought has occasionally crossed my mind: Would closing the browser window at the exact worst second ruin the save? Maybe this is what happened?
Well, since Holyday suspects a corrupted local save is overriding the working cloud save, one last thing comes to mind: Shouldn't deleting my local save work? If so, where could it be stored? (It's definitely not in the browser cache, since I've cleared that lots of times.)
Unfortunately, there isn't a good way to do this... Flash games have a specific, local file that is stored on your hard drive that is easily accessible. But, HTML5 games have a few places they can store files, and none of them are easily accessible. Generally, they're stored somewhere in either browser cookie files or in browser localstorage.
These files can fairly easily be deleted en masse... so if you wanted ALL your cookies or ALL your localstorage wiped, that can be done via the browser in a few clicks. But finding 1, or a few, specific files within that heap is beyond my skill to troubleshoot.
This thread has some detailed steps to try and assist, if you wanted to go that route: https://superuser.com/questions/186609/how-do-i-transfer-copy-cookies-from-one-browser-to-another-or-same-browser-fro
I do really apologize for what's happened here, and for the less than satisfactory results to the aid you've requested. Unfortunately, from Armor's side, there is nothing further we're able to do to assist.
