What religion do you think is best? Don't just say "(Your relegion here)" and go. But think hard about it. Perks benefits afterlife warm fuzzy feeling. All that stuff.
I say that religion is overrated but I do believe there is a great being of some sort.
That's an attractive philosophy to hold - the only problem is that it seems to fall prey to a hasty sort of relativism. Under that view, the only reason all religions are equal is because the subjective exercise of thinking about God comes pre-validated since anything goes. It's like saying kindergarten finger painting is equal to a Rembrandt because art is what you make it. I'd also remind you that not all religion is about "god" so much. Once you have to take God of the picture, it becomes impossible to say anything meaningful about religion, under such a relativistic view.
What I am saying is that everyone hold god as a value to him or her, taking your kindergartener example, to THAT kid, his picture is worth the same as rembrat's works. I mean more of a sentimental value. Now, I'm not saying that you can rewrite the black 7, (7 deadly sins) since most of them are laws, but my idea of god is different that anyone else's. For example, I don't know your beliefs, but just for example's sake, lets say you believe in creationism. You believe that God created the world in seven days. I believe in the Big Bang theory, and evolution. Now that's the chink in the armor because we don't know the truth, and we'll never know. That is the great mystery of faith.
Christianity, let me rephrase that,Orthodox Christianity is the most merciful religion, and the least violent! That is what a true religion should be,thats what the true meaning of religion is, mercy... Orthodox Christianity is about tolerance, and it teaches its followers about tolerance and mercy... True, i was never tolerant or merciful... But Orthodox Christianity is, thats why its the BEST !
This is another problem with religion. Everyone thinks that theirs is the best. That is why there was so much war in the ancient times, and that's one of the reasons for the war in the middle east. Like i said earlier, everyone's religion is right. I will not repeat myself further
@SerbWarrior, Christianity least violent? HA you make me laugh, all through the bible there are very gruesome tales of murder, rape, and basicly a whole lot of "sin". For example (this is from christian standpoint im athiest) you belive that jesus was crucified on a cross, people say he was whipped 39 times with a wip, had to carry the cross on his shoulder while being taunted by the citizens, a crown of thorns was placed on his head and nails were nailed into his wrists, you can't say it isn't violent
I think he was talking about the church officals and their followers daswift....still christianity is not at all unviolent.
You have violence in their holy book, as daswift pointed out, and then you have violence in their actions. The crusades would be a good picture but an even better picture of their violence would be the ethic clensing that serbia carryed out against the croations or bosians.
I don't think there has ever been a peacful religion, except for buddists but I think they fought hindus in india back in aceint times, so going for a religion for peace is not a good way to choose one.
No its a differnet kind've of slavery then what your thinking about. Israelite slaves were slaves for 7 years then were giving the oppurtunity to leave their masters service or they could stay as a kind've son in law. There is proof of this in israeli documents.
I know I just defended christianity when I just bashed it above you but thats just who I am...
Now to contridict my last comment and further my first comment with how violent christianity is. It'll be short I promise. Techniclly god condones the Isralites killing the cannanites and other people that live in Israel at the time and even punishes them for not finishing the job.
Now I'm done with bashing christianity in this thread so that I don't turn this into a religion war.
