They are both great at what they do......KILLING things but I think I have to go with Master Cheif he is way more resourcefull when it comes to crunch time.

True, thanks for your answer. I like Marcus Pheonix because he is more combat oriented. If they fought eachother Marcus would win.

Master Chief. I am a little biased though because i do not really like gears.

Okay, let's think about this for a minute.

Master Chief- genetically suped up supersoldier made to kill aliens, he can snap a guy's neck with one hand, and he has a rechargeable shield.

Marcus Phoenix- a regular man. no super soldier.

Of course Master chief would win. better weapons, stronger, better armor. No Contest

another halo vs gears thread/topic/whatever
in terms of the games I would say halo big thing for me is vehicles even though if you use them online in slayer your probably not too experienced with it yet. In terms of the characters in a fight.... master chief all marcus has is hide behind a rock while the chief has a random shield that heals itself every ten seconds.... plus plasma grenades vs. guy behind small rock with his gun sticking out..... hmmm..... I am biased to gears though I hated that you had to hit 2 buttons to aim and shoot..... also why I hate the resident evil series.... well 5 anyway not sure about earlier ones
