Paintball is way better, although it is a lot more expensive. The reason I do not like airsoft is because of the militirazation. There is some in paintball too, but much more in airsoft.
Airsoft is harder to tell when people get hit, and yes, airsoft hurts, but only if you get the right guns, and even then, not as much. Paintball hurts all the time, so it really gets the adrenaline pumping and makes it more exciting. They both are awesome, though.

What do you mean by this? the army is actually involved in paintballing. for example: US Army Paintball
@kevin44
the right guns for airsofting cost just as much as a paintball gun, and i think that the pain level is on par with paintballing, after all, a good airsoft gun will leave bleeding welts.
Yeah, but a lot of people just get the cheap ones that don't hurt as much, if you get a paintball gun, you know it will hurt. Some airsoft guns hurt pretty bad though, my friend has one of the good guns.
An airsoft gun that is worth just as much as a stock paintball gun (lets say 170$ and a tippman custom) the airsoft gun it going to be much more accurate and go much further.
A lot of paintball guns cost much more, mine was for $799.
I know, but usually paintball guns that cost that much aren't stock paintball guns, they are enhanced with higher grade parts.
But i was just making the point that a stock airsoft gun with perform higher that a stock paintball gun. in other words, a paintball gun at the bare minimum.

The misconception that airsoft guns are not very customizable is very common. You can add tons of parts to an airsoft gun, such as:
tightbore barrels upgraded gearboxes for electric guns pistons, bushings, internals etc, for electric guns higher grade springs for spring gun higher grade gasses for gas guns (ex: green gas, red gas) scopes, red dot sights etc... grenade launchers high cap to low cap magazines RIS rail systems
