A fact i recently heard about surprised me. 79% of the worlds poppies are produced in a province in Southern Afghanistan. The taliban force the farmers to grow them and sell the crop to international drug dealers who use it to produce opiates. The taliban then force the farmers to give them around 60 - 90 % of the $$ and then they use the money to buy weapons and to fund their organisation.

What i am trying to understand is how the Taliban can do this with a clear conscience. Drugs are clearly prohibited in the Quaran

O You who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones and (divination by) arrows are an abomination of Satanâs handiwork. Avoid (such abominations) that you may prosper. (5:90)

This is only a segment but there is more proof in there.

But as i said before drugs are clearly prohibited. The Taliban when they were in power followed the Sharia laws of the Quaran to the letter, but it seems when it comes to the drugs trade they are happy to supply 79% of the worlds opiates. This to me seems odd. Do they beleive that the sacrifice of selling drugs to keep their organisation going is worth it ie the lesser of two evils, do they belive that if us rich westerners want to poison ourselves and pay for the pleasure then that is fine too. Or are they just greedy.

Discuss.

They are freaking asshole terrorists.

I don't think that give a crap about if the drugs are anti religious or whatever. As long as they get lots of moolah, there are satisfied.

With all the money they can't do serious damage.

Sorry for the double post, but on my last one, i realized the error right as i clicked post (yet another example of why we should have a comment edit before the final post).

I meant to say "with all that money theycan do serious damage".

Ok from what you guys said, i understand that they are terrorists and from a different culture and all that and that you have the right to hate them but i think some of the replies you gave were just a venting of anger at them not rele giving answers to the questions i posed. i was wondering if anyone with any knowledge of the Quaran could give any concrete facts about the laws surrounding the drugs issue.

The Quran refers to alcohol being bad along with "intoxicants." The problem is that "intoxicants" can be interpreted in many ways. Some see it as just alcohol. Other's see it as everything from heroine to caffine. But there is nothing in the Quran that I know about that specifies about drug use.

you can't have a guilty conscience if you do something like that because they wouldn't do it in total disregard for the koran if they really believed in it, but then again we do things the bible says not to do, but when we do, we have a guilty conscience either they don't believe in the koran at all or they do feel bad, maybe they are just looking for a religious base or excuse for what they are doing, they say blowing themselves up is in the koran, but I don't think they really believe in it, I think it's just an excuse and what god would want someone to blow themselves up? that's no what the human body was made for, lol.

The Talibans are hypocrites , they kill innocent people each day , and also commit suicide , This goes against all Quranic laws , They give Muslims bad names , I myself am a Muslim and I hate the terrorist organizations , they have created their own religion , they have their ways , they say that those who do not go and fight , they will go to hell , Islam is about peace , they are ruining that peace...
