Everyone is familiar with political parties; the two most recognizable being the Republicans and the Democrats. My statement; The political party idea is a double- edged sword. It is a great way to nominate candidates, and it keeps similar views in an order, but it has also caused a lot of conflict between themselves. These parties spend more time going after each other than getting down to the pressing matters of the nation. Also, it is hard to be a good president when your cabinet, and the Legislature don't agree with anything you say, because they are in a different party. My question to AG is Should we keep our parties, or should we unite again?
There are both advantages and disadvantages to a free market, though economics aren't my forte by any means. A free market allows for more ideas and more growth, but, in turn, there is no "safety net" to catch people if they fail. And no one likes seeing homeless people. Then again, in a true free market, people are less likely to fail because there is nothing to hinder them from climbing back up when they fall down. Some regulation is necessary - there must be protection for the consumer, especially in markets such as pharmaceuticals - but for the most part, the government backing off increases the strength of the economy. Economically? Lack of regulation is generally a good thing. Socially? It's impossible - people will always create power systems to be abused. It will simply always happen, trying to stop it is like trying to stop a hurricane - you can lessen the damage, but it will still come.
I believe that George Washington himself spoke on this issue. I can't remember the exact quote, but yeah, I think it's time that we returned to a one-party system. I'm sick of hearing "liberal this," and "republican that".
And, in response to Megamickel and Woody's argument:
Even if America changed to a one-party system, we've still got this thing called checks and balances. I'm pretty sure that the Judicial and Legislative branches would still be in place. Plus, with no separate political parties to cling to, the Executive Branch couldn't just veto a bill because it goes against what his party stands for. America would be able to think logically, instead of just backing up what faction they support.
Another reason a 1 party system wouldnt work in America is because the people wouldnt accept it being so used to democracy.
I think a free market american economic system can only benefit the situation in the USA and the world. That is why even though i am not in agreement with Mcain on many issues this is one of the main reasons i find him more interesting from an economic point of view. He offers a welcome change and with the recession in England and America at the moment where the common man is suffering a free market system could be the solution, however it needs to be handled delicately otherwise thesituation could get worse before it gets better. It will be interesting to see what happens if Mcain wins.

Personally i am more of a liberal democrat but i dont see everything in black and white. I dont just support party policy because thats what my party says. I think independantly. I mull it over then i form my opinion, Im not just a robot who agrees with everything my party has to say. For example crime im conservative, prostitution im liberal. However with one party in place its hard to get a good perspective and see the other side of the argument without any opposing parties. I think it would be very difficult to make a 1 party system work in the west. Aside from the fact that the people wouldnt want it in the first place.
I don't think there would be a change if there wasn't parties. People would still argue and debate their beliefs. I just wish more people would vote based on the person instead of just the party.
Well its ll very well being an inspirational leader but the men/women in charge do have to follow party policy in many areas otherwise he/she wouldnt be supported and would never get anything done. In a way its a good thing that they dont have too much power as it could then become a dictatorship.
Having a 1 party system would only truly work in a utopia, however that's not going to happen.
As humans, I do not believe we have the ability to choose a presidet if their are no parties and it is a true "democracy". We need to do process of elimination until you get to 2 remaining. Which both of the 2 could be correct or incorrect answers. The probelm is, is that we can't go back and erease our answer and fill in a new bubble. I think there should be a centrist party and an associate party. Centrists are compiled of people to agree on the general veiw of the country, the canidate that is obviously "for the people" they are just agreeing and disagreeing with what the public wants, or maybe that's the views. Associates would just be left wing republics or right wing democrats, who are considering major change to that the average american thinks on these major views.
It's just an Idea, personally a government works smoother when people are selected by the governmet and not the people. And not voted upon but known for their accomplishments, and for their ideals. Which of whom become invited to the government.

Not necessarily. If the Supreme Court is filled with Republican Justices, and a stream of liberal laws that would help the nation out are being put up for interpretation, then, no, it won't go smoothly. Switch out the parties if you want to, it's the same effect.
