have you ever wondered what makes a game more like a peace of michaelangelo(or how you spell it) instead of a game.
i mean there are more multiple way of making a true work of programming art
1. just plain great when a game is just plain great, thats artistic. i think that stuff like the fancypants 2 and last stand are somewhat art.
2. fine lookin story when a story is great thats a superb plus.
3.nice artdesign and poetic ways. one of the greatest games in a poetic genre must be "aether" its well made in many ways, maybe just a tiny bit more boring
what do you think? what makes games art? leave a post or i strangle you with onions^^!
well, there ARE concept arts to a game. I get freaked out like "holy crap it's possible to make that?" in a game when there's a masterpiece of architecture or something to that extent.
Some games definitely seem to make the switch from just a game to wow, that's a beautiful piece of art. Some games on this site hit the art button for me.
The Daymare games and Menulis (on this site) are just esthetically beautiful. Done in a way that makes them pleasing and unique, visual art to be sure. Music Catch takes soothing lovely music and adds a small element of challenge. It's not a game that you can play for hours and beat but to me it's an artform. Coil is poetry brought to life. It can probably be called an "artsy" game. Dark Cut is foreboding and has an interesting story line. All works of art.
I think a really well done game like Fancypants can be called art certainly. Just because it's wonderfully make, fun, and visual pleasing. Even video games like Okami turn games into art.
I guess art is in the eye of the beholder but I think people can agree that games can be called an artform.
