Everyone believes we should make an 'achievement' type deal with the AG points. Kinda like Kongregate. Right now, lets see what you get points for:
Rating a Game: You rate a game from 1 - 10, providing feedback.
Game Comments: You give feedback on the game
Profile Comment: You have a conversation with another member
Forum Post: You talk to the community
Merit: You feedback is really good, thus you get bonus points

If you have a look, you'll see that the point gathering methods all have to do with feedback and community. I myself think this was intentionally done, to make the AG community really a part of the site. In my opinion, it worked, have a look at the average AG user. He has roughly 10 friends, and the bulk of his AP gathering comes from profile comments. What do you think about the AP point system? Does it promote community involvement? Or was it coincidence?

I think it works pretty good, though I kinda think profile comments should be something different from game comments and only earn you one point. It's not feedback, it's just conversation, and it brings my comments/forum posts counts out of balance. >.<
That would probably be annoying to program, though, so I doubt it'll happen...
To respond to your question, nah, the point system doesn't promote community involvement as much as socializing with other users on their profiles.

Also, you forgot. You get 20 AP for submitting a game.

I agree the point system was probably geared towards creating a community. They wanted to have the games and community sort of come together and form something different.

I think that the point system now is great. It rewards you for conversing with other members, as well as providing feedback to the creators of the many games the sit has to offer. If something was to be added to the point system, it would most likely be something new, not an idea that is used by another site, to keep with the clean, unique feel of Armor Games.

Well of course, the points in any site are to help encourage people to participate.

The comment points should be set down to 0 or 1. It's just too easy to gather points that way.

I like the points the way they are personally, but merits should get a boost, in my opinion. I just wrote a short novel about Zombie Horde 3, and even if it does get a merit, it'll only give me 25 AP. Understandably, merits don't need to be that long, but when I go for a merit, I like to include everything I thought about in the game. I'd like to see maybe a higher merit form, like an uber-merit, worth 50 AP or so.

Well, the Uber Merit thing wouldn't work at all. >.<

I think AG is more centered around the Community than games. Hardly any active user comes online to play games. It's like Myspace, really.

That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard!

Uh, Steve Wilkos and Carl Mencia? I know you think Steve Wilkos and Carl aren't a good couple, but it'll work out Chris. Maybe you WILL find another gay person?
