get glowing frames early, use good skills, thats really all you can do. If your stuck at the beggining or first epic boss, you can use my youtube vids to help.
Pay attention to the special abilities of the gems and position them strategically. I place greens (poison) and purples (armor reduction) close to the monster spawn with reds (splash damage) and oranges (steal mana) behind them, as they have larger ranges that overlap. Cyans are very underrated; I pair them with big damage gems (red, orange, yellow) so that the monsters get shocked and then pummeled!
the best way to beat an epic boss is to use gem bombs but make sure ya use them near the end when he is almost at your base and make sure they are combined gems, level 9 if possible.and in your upgrades make your gam bombs grade high.
Bombs can be useful, but I've found that it's more something you need when you're desperate, or in lower levels where a useful bomb doesn't cost too much to make. When higher... it's more something for fun, when you know you've won anyway.
Trenches can be quite useful. I've used them quite a bit after I had the max level in construction... otherwise the mana you spend on it is too high in my opinion. Great for slowing down some of the quicker critters.
Here's my advice.. Combine only pure gems and place them how its already said, build trenches and towers etc etc.. but as the epic boss comes combine all your gems into one and always move your gem there where the boss is at the moment.. when theres no tower left use the "Throw Gem" ability to kill him. Just look at the damage your final gem will deal and youll get many points because u have created so many "over lvl 7" gems Gl & HF =)
in the first few levels just use some square and diamond jems. then when it gets harder later on usually i use water trenches to slow them down build lots of towers and combine only pure jems. pure are the best. use lots of bombs when you are desperate or stop a boss. upgrade lots of things such as more money or others so u can have a quicker way to stop the enemies
1.Spread your gems out. All the gems at one area will allow the enemies to get away. 2.Place towers where two paths are close to eachother, so if enemies get away, they can get them again when they come across the other path. 3.Pure gems are really good to use. Although, you might need alot of Mana, so when you level up, concentrate on mana more than other things, this allows you to get more powerful gems, quicker.
Also note that on epic bosses, you can make them run laps. Laps simply means that you build up enough mana in your pool, let the monster enter your hut, and pay the monsters banish cost. The mana is automatically deducted. The end boss needs to be lapped about 3-4 times, so building up a pool of about 30-40K mana is good.
Be sure to revisit old rounds when you are more powerful, as the more points you score, the more you level up.
Build strong points. I always built mine near the enemy spawn point, so there were lots of a towers and a couple of trenches. Once those were filled I might put a couple towers further down the path in case I needed to move some powerful ones to kill escapees.
I always made pure gems. And I always had a good mix of types since they can each use special abilities.
Be sure to also redistribute your skill points if a battle is giving you any trouble.
