2nd gen ipod nano is teh best. you can store over 1000 songs on it it is made up of one thing, newer ipod is just two halfs put together and it breaks reallllly easily the newer ipod looks like a short, obese form of 2nd gen
I've actually had an iPhone since release and mine hasn't bungled once. I even had it Jailbroken up until the newest batch of firmware updates came out. The thing has an epic dent in the side of it from when I was out geocaching (Geocaching is awesome. It's a geeky treasure hunt. geocaching.org) and dropped it like 15 feet onto a big boulder, and it still runs like a champ.
If I didn't have my iPhone and was contemplating tossing money in the direction of a touch, I would just go all the way an get an iPhone anyway. Plus, the features of the iPhone make it indispensable. I mean, how many times have you been at the grocery store and been like "Dang, I wish I knew the recipe for suchandsuch"? iPhone to the rescue! Having google maps built in to it has saved my bacon a number of times as well when I'm trying to find a place that i've never been before in town (like the courthouse for jury duty). Wrap that all up with 16GB of music, picture, and video storage, and a phone? Pshh, worth the money to me any day.
While the new nano seems pretty cool, I'm just not sold on it. Shuffle-shake (or whatever they call it) is terrible. My wife has a feature like that on her SonyEricsson phone and she was ready to murder people because it would shuffle just from walking around, let along jogging or working out in some other manner. I suppose having a "HD" screen is neat, but honestly, the only time I watch movies on my iPhone is when I'm on an airplane, so it isn't much of a selling point to me. Plus, with such a small screen size, even if the video is HD, you're not going to be able to really appreciate the quality of it. HD videos are for big 40" 1080i Samsung TVs.
I prefer a Nano. Beacuse I do alot of running and I don't think that it helps my time running with a pound of extra weight. It costs way more for all the stuff of a Iphone. So why not just get a Iphone? I like my nano. (it's name is frank. ) Ipod touch are just a gimmick.
ive had the same nano for 5 years now and i didnt need anything extra that the touch gives or iphone does...i use my ipod on ym computer in itunes mosly anyway
