This is a spin-off of the original GFX Art Battle, but with some updated rules and changes. Please make sure to read the rules before entering, since they have been modified. Good luck, we look forward to seeing some creative artistic entries!
Competition Rules 1. Must be hand drawn, either on paper or in a program. It can then be manipulated in an graphics program. But unoriginal artwork cannot be used as the main focus. Copyrighted images cannot be used. All pieces containing copyrighted images will be disqualified. 2. Submissions must follow the current theme that has been chosen by a moderator for that week. If you submit more than one piece, please clarify which one you would like to be judged. 3. If your image is larger than 600 pixels wide, please provide a link to the image instead of posting it in the forum. Otherwise, the image will be cut off. 4. Artists cannot win in subsequent weeks. You can still submit, but if you won the week before, you cannot get first place again the next week. 5. After the deadline, a moderator will pick the winner, and they will be awarded a 25 AP award.
Nice Thoad it looks great but I think you should erase the word Poof for some reason but still good.
lol, it's name is *POOF* and I like it there because he has the magical ability to happily *poof* out of nowhere with possible fireworks. . . . .I just need to figure out how to do hair placement because I had the idea that *POOF* *poof*ing on a emo's head in The EVILCandlyland, which is my current W.I.P.
15 minutes later than my designated time...not too bad.
I shall start judging immediately. I may get held up but rest assured you'll get your judgment! Especially you, kingryan...especially you...
p.s.
Gosh. I would have back-flipped right out of that chair and did a triple 360 front flip roundhouse kick right to the face of that evil hairkiller. HOW DARE HE!
I believe it went something like this:
The Japanese was generated using a translator...I was hoping for "Chuck Norris kick" but had to settle for "ultimate kick" instead.
There were many awesome, humorous and spontaeneous entries, and this is what I like to see because it is the sign of inspired contestants! This time around there will be only one merit awarded as usual, but among the various awards there were many close calls! Furthermore I had a really hard time deciding which three entries were to be placed, because frankly I feel like I could squeeze at least five in there. I had to settle for four.
Last week I said that I liked to watch Iron Chef, and explained the rationale of the line "the dish that best articulates the feature ingredient". I will give you another hint this week...I love spicy foods that pack a punch.
Grand prize: Cenere- Let the Embalming Begin
No matter which way I looked at it, pun or no pun, this entry kept taking me for a sucker punch because it always comes up in my blind spot. In a way it's the entry that makes me go "whut", but the artist's characteristic grace and balance of colour, plus this, tipped the scales for me.
Congratulations, Cenere, you have won a merit! Just leave me a message on my profile about it and I'll handle the rest.
Second place: Pedspog- We Are the Itch you Cannot Scratch or, I couldn't tell which, Feels Like Fur
Like wow, seriously good stuff for a second appearance at these competitions. I am vastly impressed. With regards to Gantic's question in the thread re: Abstraction, this is one place where a title counts for a lot. What does it mean that the itch cannot be scratched? Why is it that the figures are apparently of people, doing people activities? This one also refused to sit right, agitating my thoughts until my head itched. An itch you cannot scratch indeed.
I won't pretend I can read minds. I have no idea whether pedspog intended me to read this that way but that's what I ended up doing, whether by design or by an overactive imagination.
Now here comes the shocker...a tie for third place! In alphabetical order:
Equal Third place: Cholokid- After Using All the Gel, Goku Finally Decided What Would Impress the Guys
It is no secret that Cholokid and I have a similar sense of humor, so it is no surprise that his entries tend to tickle my guts until I suffer urinary incontinence. However, this one is even more impressive than the Chuck Norris joke that came out of nowhere (I mean Chuck Norris' boot) to win the Fashion contest, because of its visual integration: the mirror, the several gel bottles, Goku's Super-Saiyan hairstyle, and the way he's stroking his hair up...I am sure many a DBZ watcher will wonder what the deal with the crazy hairstyles is...I would have lost it if you managed to put an SSJ3 joke in there too.
Equal Third place: Crimsonblade- The First Time Bigfoot Ever Got Discriminated Against
I am assuming the original is the official entry. The visual simplicity (to the point of being schematic) of this one actually works to its advantage...it presents enough without getting in the way of the joke. I love how the expression is a fluke but conveys so much, the enraged indignation and the weblulz "WTF!?" Oh darn it, I drooled on the keyboard because I rofl too hard.
Enough said. Both the above entries ended up making a tie for the "Most Lulz" category.
And now for the Category Awards! In order they appeared in the competition...
yours truly- Matsushiro Jr!?
Yeah, it's an afro dude. That's about all I can say about it :P
Shermzx- Evir Still Does Not Know Why He Was Demoted From the King's Bodyguard: "Awww Kawaii" award (a.k.a. most cute)
My advice regarding saving to .gif when there are a lot of colors would be...don't :P See if .jpg works better, though it may not if there are pixellated edges. .gif will restrict you to a maximum of 256 colors if even that, though.
Zophia- "Haircut, headcut, what's the f***ing difference!!?": "Most Technically Advanced" Award
...but also by far the most scary. Nothing too multi-dimensional about this expression of blatant wrath, just a really scary Arcani- nooooo I didn't say that!
I must admit that the internal censor in me struggles with how much it should play a role in judging this contest. I do get the feeling that this was the sole reason this piece was not placed in the top three, but who am I to decide the nature of the content and to what extent?
Fst6-"Dangit, now I can't enter!"
Because there would have to be at least one balding joke in this round :P
Zlug-At home: Most Mysterious Entry
Everybody kept on trying to guess who it was...and failing!
Gantic- "Most Abstructually Stimulating" Award
Gantic has already worked his own niche in this contest, and is currently engaged in an exploration of what would make me go "whut" and still be consistent with the theme. I like it!!!
Thoadthetoad
This was formerly in contention with Shermzx for the cutest entry...but with those eyes I totally freaked out. Maybe it's the camera, but are they a haemorrhagic purple!?
Apocalypse- "The Entry That Made Me Go ...*shudder*"
Yeah, I think there's a good reason we don't think too much of "hairyland". Therefore this entry is very original!
Kingryan- I'm going to title this "Thoughts of a Bogan"
Grrrrrrr! You're lucky I don't give DMs to people for 2 weeks in a row (a measure formerly for Klaushouse's sake)...but I see you're going to become a perennial offender :P
Savorath's entries were disqualified because, for the purposes of this competition, they appear to have been sourced from elsewhere which is against the rules.
And last, but not least, the Dishonorable Mention...which I've been waiting to do since last week, kekeke >:3
By now you will have worked it out, this week's DM goes to LonLonRanch- "Hare".
You have flounted the theme one time too many my friend! But I confess, I'm mainly picking on you because I have the most awesome forfeit for you...your next entry must be done in monochrome, bwahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa!
Okay, that's a wrap! Thank you all for participating this week, I hope you find the judging fair (my version of fair, because there really is no other ) I will post the details of the next theme shortly...ooooooo I wonder what it could be!
Hmm...Wait...I should skip a dishonourable mention...well idk...I think I should be able to average one a week with this comp and the poetry comp....hehe...
I figured...if you can't win first place...win last!
