There is research that just came out that may change you're mind about being a vegetarian.

Scientists have discovered that after being a vegetation for a long time, it can start to shrink you're brain.

Vegetarians are 6x more likely to suffer from brain shrinkage than us meat eaters. But that does not mean you should switch to meat and don't eat veggies, you just need to have a nice balance.

The brain needs B-12 to stay healthy, and veggies don't provide that. Meat is the e=only excellent source of B-12, and so if you don't eat meat, you don't have B-12, thus the shrinkage of the brain.

dementia

I sadly know a couple of people in college that have minor forms of dementia. And Zophia, eggs are protein. Food that isn't grown from nature is meat.

Meat gives you that B12 you need for Brain function, with another added nutrient called protein, and the fruits and vegetables keep your body looking awesome and keeping it healthy.

Fact of the matter is, it makes far more sense to have a balanced diet than to go to either extreme.

I can see how a B12 deficiency could potentially lead to issues but either take a weekly B12 supplement or eat foods that contain B12 that are not meat. Here's a quote from the The Vegetarian Society website.

Good sources of vitamin B12 for vegetarians are dairy products or free-range eggs. ½ pint of milk (full fat or semi skimmed) contains 1.2 µg. A slice of vegetarian cheddar cheese (40g) contains 0.5 µg. A boiled egg contains 0.7 µg. Fermentation in the manufacture of yogurt destroys much of the B12 present. Boiling milk can also destroy much of the B12.

Vegans are recommended to ensure their diet includes foods fortified with vitamin B12. A range of B12 fortified foods are available. These include yeast extracts, Vecon vegetable stock, veggieburger mixes, textured vegetable protein, soya milks, vegetable and sunflower margarine, and breakfast cereals.

So it's very quite possible to be completely healthy and be a vegetarian. As long as you are smart and educated about how to give your body what it needs you shouldn't have any brain shrinkage syndrome.

Food that isn't grown from nature is meat.
That just plain simply isn't true. I'm not even sure where to start, arguing against it...

And again I'm tempted to post "What kris said."... Another good post of hers, make sure to read it.

A slice of vegetarian cheddar cheese
Just in case some don't know... Many cheeses are made with something that is extracted from - is it calf stomachs?
I know the Danish word for it, but not the English... *too lazy to look it up*

I am a happy carnivore.

Not when I see you in the doctor's office and you're unable to sit on your butt because you've got piles, thanks to sitting on the toilet for too long because you can't drop a decent log and it's clogging up the pipes.

Srsly.

Ricador, it's awesome that you posted your sources because it allows me to say I find them entirely spurious

if you are a carnivore, will you have a 6x chance of a growing brain?

LOL.

No, but you will have at least a 6x chance of being constipated.

Well, regardless of whether brain size is a measure of anything (it doesn't have to be, to be honest), what I do see is an increasing interest in how we, as individuals, relate to particular diets, which I think is a good thing, because if we can discern factors that help us figure what kind of diet is right for each of us this will enable us (more) to take steps to properly manage that and exercise responsibility.

As opposed to making uneducated broad generalisations in the interests of politics. Personally I've tried vegetarian diets and it just doesn't go well for me. But I also know that I don't need that much meat because my metabolism tends not to care what I eat, as long as it isn't laden with too much fat. But too much fiber gives me the trots...etc.
