I think it depends on what you're looking for. Star Wars is definitely Space Opera, with a grand story filled with heroes and the great 'good' versus the great 'evil'.
Star Trek on the other hand is based more on 'what could be possible' rather than 'what would be cool'. This has its advantages, but also its disadvantages.

But, since SW is leading by a whole lot, I have to go for Star Trek
