Ok, well that song by the eagles, has alot of contreversy about it. Some say it is a song about hell. And some others say it has a deeper meaning about the corruption of socciety. What do you think?
It was a debate so i stuck it here, But if it is in the wrong place, could a mod move it?
At first I thought it was like most "hippy era music", that it was about their experience of taking drugs, and when it all seemed so pleasant at fist, it soon turned bad. Many people on drugs see things or situations like what is described in the song.
However, someone else who was around during that era told me it was about a haunted mansion.
What it really is about, I do not know, and I don't think anyone can truly know. I doubt even The Eagles know.
Purgatory more likely than hell, I would think. The thing about lyrics and art in any form, is that the meaning the creators give it is not always the meaning others find. Other interpretations may be valid, though if it drives the creator nuts one should consider that such interpretations may not, in fact, be valid. On the other hand, though, it's no excuse to make claims that are clearly designed to harm the creators, in this case the Eagles, when there really isn't any evidence that warrants the claim.
well, while it is about greed, it is in a sense about a darker more evil thing. Just listen to the lyrics of how they are stuck there, by things they have done, as is hell.
I actually think it's about the doom of "beast" otherwise known as . . . . it was either heroine or cocaine. There are several different things that suggest so.
The drug angle would certainly fit in with the author's claims of it being about American greed. When I read Henley's interviews on the topic I can't help but thing that the song is basically the old shcool mellow version of AEnema by Tool (granted more specific to L.A. and the entertainment industry); people caught up in all of this superficiality and not thinking about deeper issues.
