That, and Dan Brown have mentioned them in one of his books. As I know, Illuminati have nothing to do with satanism, but merely illuminatiing people, as in giving them knowledge. I can be wrong, though.
Religion and Science have been at war for all too long now. Most things said by the church to be satanic is marely threats for the religion. Science makes another picture of reality than religion want, and therefore it is marked as satanic. Any other religion than the main ones in a very religious country will also be marked as evil, and something from hell. Angels and Demons does give a certain picture of different sects og cult og minority, but if you really want to know about anything, you have to research it for yourself with and open mind. I do not give much for conspiracy theories, though. If Illuminati was still around, someone stupid enough to publish it would have heard about it. It is hard to keep anything a secret anymore.
I am just somewhat rational. Otherwise I could not manange my education. Research and open mindedness are important to understand anything. Without this, you have no possible way to discuss openly and without mudthrowing and anger. Only by discussing with an open heart and mind, it is possible to unstand other's oppinions. Sorry, that was a bit off topic.
I am just saying that, whenever you find something you find interest in, try to understand it fully, and be open to other peoples oppinions. And try researching before you make a statement.

Illuminati is a sweet game by Steven Jackson. Most pop-culture encounters I've had of Illuminati is that they are a secret control organization. illumination, or knowledge, may be integral to that, but the key seems to be control, more than educating the masses. Gnostic though implies that only certain people have the knowledge, and maybe with Illuminati that's the case: only certain people are illuminated, and they're the one's with the power?

I think that maybe the so-called religion vs. science war is actually relatively new, with many historic examples of it being more a political war, especially given that it is religion that founded empirical science as we know it today. Which Illuminati are you talking about? The historical Illuminati was part of the Age of Enlightenment, and trying to enlighten or spreading knowledge. Illuminati in the conspiracy theories is an organization trying to take over the world.
