why did the Roman empire fall after years of great military and cultural victories?

i think the Barbarians from the east mixed with currupt politics lead to the destruction of their economy and their military.
please post your opinion!!!!

so they were weak to attack by many nomadic clans and barbarians such as the Visigoths.

Lol, I loved studying the Visigoths in my Western Civilization class. All that we learned was that they pillaged, burned, pillage, burned, raped, pillaged, burned, burned, pillage, and did some more burning.

But if that's what it takes to undo the largest empire in history, then let it be.

Well, they had some help

I also believe the Huns got in there as well, correct? And there were at least 20 different ones that scavenged all throughout the was-Roman Empire.

the empire probably just collapsed under its own weight. Barbarian attack eventually lead to the shrinking of borders, and the flexablity and size of its military was being chocked to death. They were lucky that Genghis Khan did not conquer them, or else much of europe might have been speaking Mongolian to this day.

Well, the Huns, or Hahns or however you spelled it, did invade. They were weakening the borders, but I believe the Visigoths did the most damage.

Correct. And there were tons more tribes, but since nothing was really written down during the period of time that the Roman Empire was collapsing, (known as the Dark Ages) most of what is known is about the Visigoths. This is probably because they were the biggest instigators among the invaders.

There were also the civil-wars that sprang up that could have caused long lasting effects to the empire's economy, also, almost every time there was a new leader towards the end of the empire's existence, the people would revolt and refuse to work.

I believe it has something to do with the adage, "What goes up, must come down."

Yes, the east was FAR more successful then the west, which fell to barbarian attacks.
