What do you think of genetic engineering? What about transgenic animals? What about the owner ship of the human genome? Should humans be cloned? What of gene therapy? I would like... to have a neat concluding sentence to start the discussion, but I lack one.

Gene therapy would be extremely useful. I think that genes should only be altered when it is severely needed.

Example: The mom of a friend of mine has MS. She is also bipolar. Not exactly the two best diseases to have. If, upon or before birth, something could have been done to prevent this from happening, then life would be so much easier for my friend's family.

Example of a stupid use: You want your baby to have blonde hair, be at least six feet tall, etc.

Well, gene therapy is notorious for it's rate of failure. If it is tested, people will die, but cures for genetic disorders may be discovered.

Exactly. But, as with most experiments, scientists will probably start with smaller animals before moving onto humans.

But you can never be completely sure until you test with humans. Even with chimpanzees, which are only 500 genes apart from humans.
