What is a good framerate for a game?

Is there any standard or default framerate that most developers use when creating games? I realize that a higher framerate will take more CPU power and download time. Are there any other factors to think about when choosing a framerate?

I would say about 20 fps. If the graphics in the game are simple, you could hazard at a little higher frame rate...but if there's a lot of heavy graphics, go for a smaller rate. Also, optimize your art before you start animating it

For one, framerate doesn't effect download time.

Industry standards are any where from 24-260 FPS.
The best choice for browser games is about 24-30. I wouldn't recommend anything lower than 18.

Personally, I like to use 30 FPS in all of my games, but dank is right. Anywhere between 24-30 should be fine.

As long as it's faster than ten...
Due to old laptop I've played games that accidentally ran at 1-3 fps. Now that's not fun...
Actually, five can work if the graphic is extremely simple, but your statement is probably valid.
