Here is a walkthrough for dominating trenches in Warefare: 1917:
1) Pick the British Campaign, for it has more trench usage. 2) Get to the point where you unlock Assault (The Unit with the Grenade next to it). 3: Deploy an assault team, then two infantries after to fill the trench, send the Assault team up and take the enemy's trench.

When you are farther and having trouble: 1) Deploy a Sniper, then an Assault, then an Infantry. 2) When the Trench is filled, send up the Assault.
This also works with Machine gun instead of Sniper or Infantry.
I've found that by the time you get 2-3 assaults the enemy starts barraging you with artillery So I just rush with 2-3 assaults and keep sending more Works if they're isnt lots of mines
Ive completed with both sides, the key is your assualt team. they are great vs tanks, they beat most units and they are awesome at assualting trenches. my favourite tactic is to put 1 machinegunner in a trench then fill the rest with assualt, send forward the assualt and continue (etc etc). when you have more than one trench, i do it like this: o = machinegunner, x = assualt

I then make an assualt and send all 5 in the trenches foward and start to build up the trenches full of assualts again
