If someone is temporarily banned, I think that their comments should automatically be locked. What do you think?

So what's the point of this?

Then the comments-disabled message will stay there until the user is active again. I do believe once the temp ban is over, they get a message on their e-mail saying that they are not banned anymore. But I have not been banned (yet) so I wouldn't know. That would be the smart thing to do however.

To stop people from spamming in banned profiles.

Another benefit from this is to find ghost accounts.

People take advantage of them to get AP which is not fair.

When that user gets back, he/she can always deleate those comments, however I agree that locking the comments would be a good thing to do.

I'm pretty sure you ment temp. banned. If a user gets banned, their account gets deleated.

The thing is, people don't tend to like advertising that they have been banned. So putting something visible on their profile or locking their comments sort of publicly announces it.

True... Besides, like I said, they can always deleate the unwanted comments when their ban is over.

That too. I doubt that many comments would accumulate, and most people would just be able to take care of it spending a few minutes deleting the comments themselves.

This seems like a really good idea, but I can foresee some complications, some of which have already been pointed out.

Being banned is a form of punishment, so any humiliation because of it would be justified. However, I understand that advertising it would not be pleasant, so when someone looked on the banned person's profile, it could read something like "Comments have been temporarily disabled".
It doesn't mention anything about them being banned. This is only an idea, of course.

The general idea on this site is that the ban is your punishment and your whole punishment. Meaning it shouldn't be publicly announced for the sake of humiliation.

*agrees to what Carlie said*

But, I can't reach banned profiles. They're not there... You get a 404 until they're unbanned.

That only happens with permanent bans. With temporary bans, you can access the profile pages. They are only removed when we have completely taken them from the site, as with a permanent ban.

Has that changed in the past? I remember periods where I was banned and unable to view my page, and I think it happened to Ricador too. We both came back later though (duhh).

No, it has only been that way. The issue with Ricador was actually different.

I understand, but who revived this? I agree with this idea... But there should be an option on your profile:

Do you want your comments to be locked when you are banned?

It would depend, since if it was a day I would keep it open but if it was a week I would have it closed for a while...
