I am in the midst of learning guitar, and even tho ive only been learning for a couple months, i wanna get an electric that sounds decent withou paying a huge price. i hear Squier by Fender has fender quality without fender price, and i have looked at their products. the SE STOP DREAMING START PLAYING for $200 package interested me at first, but the amp is said to be horrible. the BULLET by squier recently caught my eye. its only $100 so i never considered it as a potentially good guitar, but it has gotten better reviews than the starter package, and i can get a decent amp for $60, saving me some cash. Any thoughts about what choices i should make or things to know?
I think that for a beginner, it doesnt really matter what type of guitar and amp sounds the best, Id wait and choose that until after i got really good or something.
I really wish that you would have said Strat not "Bullet" but I have looked it up and that's the same guitar that I had as my first, it serves you very well, now I have a Les Paul which is better but very pricey, so I believe that that would be the bast one to begin with.
I don't want to toot my own my horn, but I think I know exactly what you want. I've been playing for around 5 years, so I know my guitars. If you plan on playing for a long time, I wouldn't suggest getting a Squier. They are pieces of crap. Not even worth $100. Now I would suggest that you save a few hundred more. Possibly get a cheap Fender Stratocaster, and a Fender Frontman amp. Probably around 25 watts. The Guitar would cost around 200 to 250 and the amp will be around 150.
Les Pauls are very good guitars, but they are very pricey. (Of course if you're going for a Gibson) And before you even have a thought of getting a guitar that is more than $500, you should think about what music you play. Fenders are definately not for hard rock or metal, but since you are starting, any type of guitar or amp is good.
Squier is similar to a Fender in sound though just made much worse, if you are on a very tight budget than get the bullet, if not then get a Strat, personally I would get an Epiphone Les Paul, much cheaper than a Gibson but still worth every penny, that could be about $300-$400 so it is more but much better, as for an amp though you might want a Marshall, about 25 watts like Estel said, maybe more if you don't plan on buying a new one in about 2 years. Also if you want to play hard rock/metal then I would suggest either a Warlord(I know that some may disagree but I like them for metal)or an Epiphone SG(very hardcore sound and a personal favorite of mine).
wow guys thnx a lot! lotsa response! armor_warrior you are a big help and have good advice; just what i wanted to hear. estel, i get what ur saying, and i do plan on playing for a while, but at the moment im just looking for a decent starter guitar, and eventually "graduate" into a really good guitar once i can actually play to a better degree. plus, im pretty much broke except for a deal i made with my dad for helping in remodeling our backyard, so i cat afford anything above $150 plus the amp. thanks for the advice though, it is very much apreciated.
first off, i just want to thank everybody's opinion in this thread
ok so now i just found out that the guitar in the package is the bullet strat. so now i think im gonna just go with the whole package for $180 in-store, cuz im sure im gonna get the guitar, and i realized that at this point in my capabilities with my guitar, a great amp isnt critical for future success. plus im getting a stand, bag (not great quality, but i will do) and just some other accesories. feel free to post any more comments
Good idea gamer. You have to start somewhere. Special packages are good because they come with an amp, and guitar, plus a few little extra things such as pics and a bag.
Now I would suggest getting some lessons. I got good pretty quick because guitar was an elective at my old school, so I got to play everyday. Lessons at your local Guitar Center or music store may cost a little bit of money. Possibly see what you can get for Christmas (:
