I saw yet another video of a group of protestors burning the American flag. The disgust me! Please tell me someone else out here agrees that it is wrong and should be illegal.

There are definitely areas that I applaud the founders of America on, they tried to create a country of equality and rights and one where the government wouldn't be able to run amok with no checks or balances on the power that it held, I merely feel that not all of America's history is something to take pride in. As an Englishman I can honestly say that England has done some terrible, terrible things in the past and I acknowledge that, we're not innocent at all, but that doesn't mean that there aren't good points too. I merely despise it when people seem to blindly support the whole history of their country, taking pride in everything that it's done historically, while all the while they seem to ignore the fact that their country isn't exactly innocent. I'd rather people celebrated the highlights of their countries history but still remembered the times when that country was guilty of wrongdoing too.

I don't take pride in most of my country. America has degenerated from capitalism and free enterprise, to socialism, 65% taxes, and corruption. We're at our worst in this moment of time. What I have pride in is the American sprit, and what she does.

While unethical and disturbing, the US Supreme Court ruled in Texas v. Johnson that it is an appropriate form of free speech and protected by the Constitution.

What's so unethical and/or disturbing about burning a piece of fabric?

It is the symbol of our country, and it should be respected.

As Johnny Cash put it: "I'm glad anyone has the freedom to burn a flag in America. I'm also glad we have the right to bear arms so that I can shoot them in case someone tries to burn mine."

It is representative of your country true, but your country itself means different things to different people, while you see something that should be respected - others may see an evil entity that has caused only harm and grief.

I don't see why protesters would burn their own countries flag or even some one elses that's kind of going a little to far..

Burning a country's flag can be offensive. It's a symbol representing us as a nation, but it can also be very symbolic. Protesters use this to get a point across, burning a flag is dangerous and risky. But if they're willing to take that risk, they must have something to say.

Sometimes, when protestors vehemently oppose the actions of the government, the only protest that will invoke a response is an outright denunciation of the oppressive government. It's free speech and that's all there is to it.
Also ironically, what happens to American flags if they are dropped on the ground? they get burned.

Just a interesting side fact, but the proper way to get rid of an old or warn American flag is to respectfully burn it.
