Keep tapping the F8 function key on your keyboard while you computer starts, you'll get a message asking you whether you wish to increase your computing speed.
If you have a numpad you can do some neat things in wordpad, like alt + 3589 makes a little snake I think. And I think the OP meant tricks like different smilies and text characters and such. This one is kind of crude, but I still thought it was creative: t(-_-t)
