The United States and the Soviet Union/Russia have always been trying to behave like bullys to each other, and to their weaker counter parts. If anyone vowed alligence to socialism, the Soviet Union would throw AK-47s to at them by the millions. If anyone said they were under attack by guerrillas or a communst-power, then sure enough, the United States would come along with their stinger-missiles to give out a helping hand. Neither side is good or bad, they're just like twins who hate each other at home only they put human lives as pawns for their conflicts.
you know if you listened to something Russia bombed every part of Georgia practically... except for an oil pipeline. Coincidence i don't think so. Russia did this because their allies called on them and ever since the collapse of the USSR(United Soviets Socialist Republic) Russia has been trying to get on the world stage yet again.
They are both imperialist ****. They are both acting towards for more power and money.
True to some degree.
It's a very adversarial environment with both of them wanting to score points on the world stage. Something people don't often talk about when examining this conflict is that Georgia was looking to gain entry into NATO just befoe this happened which would have meant more nuclear missile silos could have been placed there. The Russian perceived this as a threat of encirclement. Really i think that in a nutshell both nations want to be hyperpowers and now that Russia has recovered it wants to regain some of its cold war power and status on the world stage and America doesn't want that. Georgia for the Russians was never about the protection of Russian citizens. Look back in history and when have they ever cared about their own people except when it suited them?
I didn't watch the video, not much time. But what I find so hypocritical on both sides is who they support in independence bids. The US supports Kosovo's independence bid, but not Abkhazia or S. Ossetia. Russia is the other way around. Obviously this is the way it is because Georgia is a staunch US ally, while Serbia tends to side with Russia.
It's like messing with land mines, one wrong move with either one of them, and there are going to be some explosions. Just a metaphor, but seriously, there will be a war with the two in the not too distant future I suspect
