A forum that updates by itself will really lag the site, plus there aren't a lot of people who post on this forum either. Don't be lazy, what's wrong with clicking the refresh button.
If you want to chat, there's always the unofficial AG chat.
Much like everyone else said, a constantly refreshing forum will DEVOUR bandwidth from the server. Plus, there are many other additions that AG's community needs, and constantly updating isn't one of them.
Ture about the chat. NHo one is ever on. I think this is a nice idea. It gets old refreshing all of the time, and this site is very slow. Because of that, I post alot less then i usually would.
Okay, if no one understands what he is trying to say is that why do you have to refresh the page before you can see new threads, and posts.
Now to fix this you would have to make a php script to refresh the page. YES it does refresh the page automatically, but you have to transfer all the data again(in other words its the same as pushing the reload/refresh button but without pressing it) And you would have to set the refresh intervals(like every 5 minutes)
Um to answer your question... Because AG is strictly a html, and css based website. So there isn't a lot of functionality. Now if they implemented php, and javascript then there would be a lot more things that could be put into the site. Now some people say just switch to VB... Do you know how much VB costs? It's like 600 dollars to just get the permission to take off the copyright link back to the VB site. Not to mention buying each mod to the skin...Because VB has they're own language. ~Binary
Now, this is a terrible idea which has been stated by alot of people. If it is constantly updateing it's self you will get knocked from page 10 to page 12 in a matter of a few minutes which is what it should take you to think up and type a good response. If your to lazy then get off the freaki' forums!

They're obviously already using some sort of server-side scripting (PHP, Ruby, Perl, or whatnot) to handle the forums. You can't build a forum out of just HTML and CSS.
