I wouldn't say they're begging. They basically just go around singing for people...
to say the truth, should a caroller come to my house, I'd instead of giving them some money, I'd give them something they seem to need, food, clothing, etc. etc. If they seemed wealthy (to some point), I'd just give them whatever was in my pocket.

I didn't think so... I just thought it was something that people did out of the goodness of their hearts? But maybe I'm wrong. I can't say I have ever had carolers come to my house, I think the tradition is a little outdated in most areas.
And this is why people have a lowered sense of Christmas Spirit -- because they don't sing along with the traditional songs they've known since they were kids. I encourage it, whether its from choir or instrumental, express your feelings for the holidays; it cheers people up, it gives them a renewed sense of bliss in their lives, and the reason why they have New Year's Resolutions is because of the brief period of pure content while being snug in their houses.
You should never shoot anyone down that's singing; One, they are just celebrating the holidays, last time I checked, that's actually cool, and Two, that just shows you are just being a Scrooge.
