When I hear this word I think of the people that suffer with terminal illnesses. Then I hear people saying that is a crime. Sure if euthanasia would be legal people would die. But these people (maybe) would be sick (and suffering).
About euthanasia I do not have a strong opinion because the arguments that have said. So much to think.I have think about this over and over. Still I do not have a strong opinion. It could be a crime or a acte of kindness. I do not know.
But I would like very much if everyone (that see this post)to give an opinion.
Thank you.
Note: Anything that you would like to say or criticize I appreciate that it would be in a constructive way.
I think it should be legal, pretty much because living like a vegeable the rest of your life, or live in pain without recovery in sight is like living in hell.
Just a random comment. Somehow I dislike the word, as that was the frase used in Nazi Germany when they killed off handicapped or mental disabled persons.
When my Grandpa was sick, he requested one thing: If he couldn't go home and sit by the pool in his backyard, then let him go. When he died, it was tough. Once it was clear he would be in a hospital for the rest of his life, he had the plugs pulled and passed. But he went quickly. It helped to know he did not suffer long.
My grandma got sick a few years later. First it was breast cancer, then bone, then stomach, then brain. But she was a fighter. She would not give in. Those 3-4 years were the worst years. She was always sick. She had strokes. She would sleep 20 hours a day and be in huge amounts of pain. Knowing she was in that much pain caused pain throughout the family.
When someone knows it's their time, they know. My grandpa knew he did not want the family to suffer watching him die slowly. Yeah, it sucks when someone dies, especially if they could have gone on for a few more years. But not seeing him in excruciating pain is what helped me recover from his death so quickly.
@Cenere And what is euthanasia other than killing off handicapped or mentally disabled persons?
To me, euthanasia is just the same as shooting yourself in the head or jumping from a bridge. It is simply the concept that you cannot handle whatever hardship you are faced with.
Being a Catholic who believes in the afterlife, I would have to say that killing yourself is murder, and murder is evil.

The concept of helping ill people to die medically. Being terminally ill is not the same as not being able to think for yourself. It might be murder/suicide, but ethically the question would be, if people should suffer. Economically it would be cheaper too.

My grandmother also died of cancer, breast, stomach and leg and also had multiple heart attacks and strokes. She told my dad that if she had any more she didnt want to be revived. My dad relayed this onto the nurses who said they couldnt be seen to to officially withold treatment but could just react very slowly if she went under again. Thankfully she died peacefully in her sleep but i belive in countries where it is illegal the witholding of treatment is probably quite common with terminally ill patients who ask for it.
I am personally not against the witholding of medical treatment for terminally ill people however i am aginst euthanasia. For one thing there is no going back. Who knows what people may have done in their lives had they not been killed. Some people who undergo euthanasia in countries where it is legal are just severely depressed. In those cases I dont belivve that it is right.
A euthanasia law was just passed here in Washington after the Presidential Election. It states, however, that the person has to have two letters of consent from two impartial doctors, consent from the family, (I believe) and must be deemed by said doctors to be mentally stable enough to make the decision for his/herself.
I think it is a very interesting issue as it involves life and death. Possibly even too much responsibility for a doctor or even a judge (although not in America where you still have the death penalty).
