Hello, as you can tell this subject might be a little controversial because I know some people who yell at me for believing in global warming. I just wanted to know what everyone thinks about it. I do believe we need to take better care of our environment since we only have one.
My friend, for his Master's degree in Math, looked at global warming. Everyone's heard the "As the number of pirates has decreased, the temperature has risen." Well, my friend did some research on the decrease in pirates and the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere. He found that the pirate claim actually has a higher correlation to global warming than the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. This doesn't disprove GW, but I think it shows how exaggerated it is.
Another fun fact: Mars is heating up at the same rate as Earth. The sun goes through cycles. Sometimes it emits more heat. We are in a stage of higher levels of heat from the sun. Not only that, the Earth goes through cycles of temperature as well. The Earth happens to be on an upward trend. The combination of the Sun and Earth in upward trends makes GW seem real, when it is just a trend that naturally happens.
I personally think it's naturaly climate change. Remember, we've had a few ice ages, and the Earth's gotten hotter and colder as time's passed. We aren't killing the planet, but some more forests would be nice. Instead of taxes and regulations, how about we just plant a few trees, but I guess there's no money to be made in that.

This is a "hotbutton issue." It is hard to know where to stand on it.
It is undeniable that we are experiencing a warming trend. It is the ultimate cause of this trend that appears to be in dispute. I see three possible explanations for this warming trend:
1. It is part of natural cycle that has occured before 2. It is a direct result of human activities 3. Human activities are merely a contributing factor
There is obvious friction between the environmentalists and the deniers. Some environmentalists are so hysterical and alarmist that they are doing their cause more harm than good. Some deniers are so stubborn in their refusal to do anything to determine the cause, or do anything about it, that they only further infuriate the environmentalists. Then there are all sorts of political and financial considerations.
What is clear to me is that we cannot afford to ignore the situation, at the same time, we cannot afford to spend outrageous amounts of money and resources trying to fix something if we aren't absolutely sure what's causing it.
IMHO, it makes sense to come to some sort of world-wide agreement to reduce hydrocarbon emissions incrementally over time. At the same time, we need to gather together experts in the field to definitively study the problem, determine the cause(s), and come up with some realistic solutions. We have to be both practical and smart about this.
Ahem. Anyways, none of us are meteorologists. This is a scientific issue, so our opinions are just guesses based on what psychologically makes sense. Psychological. Not factual.
