There could be a forum directly associated with comments or questions to moderators or updates moderators want to tell us.

Uhm... ^^;
That is kind of what Newcomers and S&S and News is for... Kind of.
I check the Newcomers section daily, so...

If there are questions you need a direct reply from a moderator to, leave a comment on their profile.

This is pretty much what the S&S forum is about. We tend to answer questions and announce updates here (or in the applicable forum). So I am not sure I see the benefit of making a smaller forum that would contain what this forum already does.

Or maybe we could have one thread directing questions, so users wouldnt have to waste the communities space and make a new thread

Well, we do have guide threads. The thing is though, most people are too lazy to read them!

We don't need a thread directing questions, anyone can simply leave a profile comment on one of the mod's pages. I'm sure they'll reply.

Only problem with that is that they get many, many replies, mostly spoon feeding and the other some just garbage about them being mods and all that. They are sticky threads for a reason; they (try to) make users read them and (hopefully) they get the information they are looking for.

They don't need the forum for announcements. They could just use the front page to do that.
