You can try GIMP-tutorials.com, for starters. If it's your first time using something of the sort, don't expect to be able to churn out a super-duper cool signature your first try. Ease into it. Learn what each of the tools do.

All I want to know is how to play the animation and i was wondering what layers do, like are they another slide in the animation? or is it just another layer of the original drawing, I need to know, I am pretty much an expert on backgrounds now because they seem to have a lot of tutorials on text and backgrounds on there but not so much on animations.

New layer = new frame in the animation. Remember to optimize too.

look I believe Zophia made a small tutorial about animation before, but if you just want to make a simple stick figure type thing then the best program to use for that is pivot,as it has built in bone structures, you can import objects into it such as your actual signature(username, name, etc.)and all that, but really it all comes down to you making a .gif file out of whatever you want to use for your animation. That's the only way you can make an animated file that can be posted onto a photo sharing website that will be animated, and then be able to post it on here.I have never really tried using GIMP for animations as it sounded like a real pain having to work with frame by frame animation that had to be pretty much redrawn for each frame which could end up wither choppy or take alot of time.If flash had the option of exporting into .gif and I knew about it,then I would suggest that before anything else, except maybe pivot for just simple stick fights, because of the built in bone structures as it makes things a bit easier, but when it comes to more graphic rich animations that require more then just basic sticks then typically in most cases flash is a bit easier, although by a professional standpoint GIMP also allows for the same effects, just without motion tweening and alot more work. The good new though is that you wouldn't have to import any drawings from another program in order to get alot of better looking art.Back to what you main question is though you mainly just want to create multiple layers and try looking...Here
