It just depends on what you are. If you are a leader who wants a cheap, easily and massivly produced gun, in which you can train a person with it in maby less than 10 minutes get the AK-47. Its parts are also interchangeble with any other AK from any part of the world, from any time period. This means you can get parts from each continent, ranging from the 70's to now and put them together and form a working weapon. Also the amount of time its been around and amount of people that have been using it, says alot for it. It also can be used in areas like sand, ect. Now if you are looking for a more "cutting edge" weapon, use the M16. It is more accurate, and better for use with an organized military. Also last i knew, and i may be getting this confused with another gun, the M16 has the ability to have add-on such as a scope, light, lazer pointer, spare cartrage. To be perfectly honest, i dont like either, im more for sniper rifles.

Hmmm.. I'd have to say M16, even though the AK47 and M16 are not in the same league or category together

AK47 because it doesn't jam at all

the reason i don't like M16 because in veitnam Us troops kept jamming their weapons with all the dirt around

AK47's sometimes jam up, and it's true that M-16's did, because of all the elements dealing with jungle warfare

Its the AK-47. It has more penetration, a bigger round, and the gun itself is superior. What Kalashnikov did with it is genius. In a well made AK, there are only four parts that need to be taken off and cleaned, while an M16, and the current variant being used by the US, the M4 has around seven. As for versatility, you can put as many gizmos on an AK as an M16, ranging from an ACOG, to a grenade launcher, to a bayonet.
Next all the people talking about an AK jamming? You've probably never even held one, let alone shot one. You can throw in a handful of dirt, or mud into the chamber, and it'll shoot the same. It'll mess the barrel up if you do it much, but thats more than an M16 can say.
Oh, the stuff about the M16 jamming all the time in Viet Nam? The jamming was because they used ball powder in the rounds, which caused more fouling. Also, humidity of a jungle didn't help. And the soldiers weren't even issued cleaning kits. It was mostly beuracrats trying to save a dime that decided the weapons and equipment for the US. The modern M16 has had numerous improvements and now has cleaning kits in the butt-stocks, and the barrel, chamber and bolt are chrome lined. It sucked then, not now. Now its pretty decent.
Last, the M16 doesn't have enough punch. Sure if you shoot a guy enough times he'll die, but if you only manage to hit him once, unless the slug nicks an artery or shatters a bone, the round'll just pass right through. And its so small it probably won't hit anything vital. That means the bad guy will have another chance to shoot you. An AK has stopping power and penetration. Its also a pretty good sized round.
The Ak is a ridiculously simple gun, that packs a whallop, and can be pretty cheap.
And another thing, as for accuracy at 200 yards, both are as good as the other. Any farther just use an M14, You'll probably end up hitting something. But below 200 yards are almost all you need to worry about, and if the sights are good, then both shoot fine.

yes, the AK is better. It looks good (not that that matters) and it has stopping power. as long as you aren't spraying, accuracy isn't a problem with the AK, and it will mess you up a lot more than the M16s round.

M16, much better accuracy, it's ROF is is almost 40% better, it's lighter, more plentiful and better attachments. In the hands of someone trained, the M16 is more deadly in every way.

yea but an m16 uses the 5.56 and the ak uses 7.75. the shot is slower, but delivers more kenetic energy to the target.

SCREW THOUSE TWO! G36C for the win. uses a great design to stay light and accurate and short in its design. and its pretty

Haven't fired an AK47 yet, but the current generation of M16s are extremely lightweight and low on recoil. If I weren't going to use it in extreme environments, I'd go with the M16, but anywhere where you're gonna encounter a lot of fine dust, sand, muck, or other potential obstructions, the M16 is likely to jam first.
