Atheism is the denial god or gods or the lack of belief in the existense of god or gods. The denial of godâs existence is also known as strong, or positive, atheism, whereas the lack of belief in god is known as negative, or weak, atheism. Although atheism is often contrasted with agnosticism: the view that we cannot know whether a god or deity exists or not and should therefore suspend beliefâ"negative atheism is in fact compatible with agnosticism.
The term atheism comes from the Greek prefix a-, meaning âwithout,â and the Greek word theos, meaning âdeity.â The term agnosticism derived from agnostikos (Greek for ânot knowingâ), was introduced into English in the 19th century by the British biologist Thomas Henry Huxley.
Well, don't start off a thread with just copied and pasted passages from another site, even if you provided sources. You need to put your opinion too....
Well, I believe there is a thread on Atheism, but not Agnosticism. What exactly is this thread supposed to be about? Are we comparing them?
This not exactly is helping us. For one thing, those messed up smart quotes are in the way of the thread topic, confuzzling me profoundly.
I'll say this though. Atheism can go both ways. Some deny the existence of deities COMPLETELY, and flat-out will NOT accept them. Some just don't know whether they should accept them or not, knowing that "making friends will also make enemies", so they choose to remain neutral. Others remain atheist until there is unmalleable proof of a deity, meaning that they either see the deity in front of his/her eyes, or proof has risen during his/her time and she wishes to accept it.
oops sorry to confuse everyone. I posted another thing about what we should talk about and my opinion but it must of note posted correctly.
Even kids in my school have already decided they are Atheists. I believe these days that there are so many reasons not to believe in God with all of this "not proven by science" mumbo-jumbo.
I do believe in god. I also believe in ghosts and spirits. A lot of times kids religious beliefs are pressured and derived form their parents, which may be a good thing, or bad thing. It was interesting when the whole polygamist( i hope i spelled that right) ranch in texas was shut down, due to a call for help made by a teenage girl. That girl was never found, and the children had no problem with being married at young ages and the other things they did.
