I am studying Psychology at 6th Form and can't begin to understand the mind of a paedophile. In the 6 years at my secondary school we had 3 paedophiles working thereand subsequently sacked (all ICT teachers coincidentally) I was wondering if anyone knew waht specifically drives a paedophile in terms of psychology why are they like that is is there fault or is it in there genes ?
I did an AS level in psychology. The course never got onto paedophilia though. Coincidently there was a paedo at my skl, but before i was there. I would say it is more likely to be a developed condition. I dont think you can be born a paedophile.
Sometimes brain chemistry can get mixed up when you are born, in most cases it is because (in my opinion) the individual may have a sexual addiction along with the inability to determine just from unjust, ti could create something along the lines of pedophile, of course it can just be choice in itself in quite a few cases...
Many paedophiles were abused themselves as children. I would say the things that happen to people as children shape their adult personalities as adults.

One of the main theories of psychology is the biological one. I would have thought that if there was evidence of this scientists would be working round the clock to 'cure' paedophilia. Personally i dont think we know enough about the brain to make assumptions of this basis.
Of Course we can't make assumptions about the brain because each brain functions differently, I was just stating my theory on the matter from my experience with biology and scraps of chemistry I picked up...

I'll comment a bit about this topic as I might be able to shed some light on it. First, it reminds me of a joke I loved for a long time when I was 17.

I could see the attraction of pedophilia. I have not done anything myself mind you, but when you look at 14 year old cheer leaders.... I mean dang. Actually I think this is a mental thing. It's the idea of their innocents. It's why guys want a virgin wife. A darker step, you could say, would be the corruption of that innocents. One of the Japanese favorite names for girls is Sakura, meaning loss of innocence. They are also the one's with the largest fetish for the young school girl look. You may want to look up Lolita as this is were most of the pedophilia attraction is from.
I don't get the joke either. I'm taking a Criminal Justice class and that could help you figure this out. Most are probably created from a variety of factors, such as abuse, especially rape as a child where they for some reason want to do it to others, I'm not sure exactly why, but that's a common reason. It could also have to do with them not understanding it's wrong and the increasing sexuality of our culture probably doesn't help things. But, the main thing is most likely not being able to tell right from wrong, becoming attracted to a minor, and acting on it.
I've studied Psychology a little and I think it may just be a patho thing. The said person thinks he/she is a pedo and starts questioning his/her own self. They dig themselves into a deep hole of self doubt. Also, innocence is a turn on. The lure of something untainted. There was a bid on a woman's virginity that made headlines for it's infamous million dollar bids. All people have cravings. Some just express them in a politically correct way.

Might as well that in terms of sexuality, you're not born with it. Homosexuals (and pedophiles) use the scapegoat that they were born that way. Though they aren't, it's probably not their fault. Small insignificant things that make them doubt themselves and curiosity are what drive them to believe that they're homosexual. After they totally believe they are, they can't really change back. I've never heard of a person who's homosexual, turned back and became homosexual again. Like they say, once you turn gay, hayyyyyy.

Anyway, as to pedophiles, the problem with them isn't their urges to do horrible detestable things. The problem with them is their lack of impulse control. If you have an urge to do weird things to your table legs but you simply ignore them and go about your life then their is nothing wrong with you. We all have rich fantasy lives that can involve odd things. That's the point of fantasy. It's when you decide to act that we have a problem.
Sexual predators don't ever seem to have the ability to stay in a fantasy. Which leads me to the conclusion that there must be something in their brain that is misfiring. Could there be a link between a lack of impulse control and pedophilia perhaps?

I do dislike how people do not address the name of the person they are commenting. Also, I feel as if Pedophiles are a class of sexuality as are homosexuals. I put them in a more similar category because they are both outcasted.

Their impulse control is the same as ours. The impulses are the problem most people see is the "roblem". Most pedophiles don't molest. They just watch. I could argue they may have more impulse than us.

You're proving the point you put down in the previous paragraph. Most people ignore them. Pedos usually have low self confidence or poor self image leading them to doubt themselves.
Alright, for the sake of this thread and discussion I will be playing the role of the Pedophile, age 36 named Tom. Don't go calling the cops now >.> I was not abused as a child, my childhood was fairly normal. I am attracted to girls between the ages of 11 and 17 (for arguments sake). My attraction started when I was 14 to those of the same age range as me, but has never changed with my own age. My fetish have grown from simple pornography, to bondage, to r*** games. I often fantasize about kidnapping a young impressionable girl and "train" her as a house slave.
