When I was one of the most active members on AG, I use to love these forums. You could get on and there would always be a great topic to converse on, or to laugh about. I would enjoy an occasional debate, and a forum game, or discussing a current event. As most of you know I took a lengthy break from AG and now getting back I am very disappointed to see that the forums are diminishing.
I see so many This VS. That threads, and so many Dont you just hate this, and lots of do you think that is..., and its getting pretty ridiculous!
I dont want to sound like a nagging mod, but seriously lets think a little more deeply than "CATS VS. DOGS!?!?" and get some actual thought provoking topics. The forums are turning into one big blob of spam, so lets try to fix it. Try to make topics more than two sentences long. Make it a good two or three paragraphs about what your trying to say, it just makes more room for discussion. Try giving some background information or some websites to look at to make things more clear or humerus. It will make the forums better all together and everyone should enjoy themselves more. I hope you will all try to work with me on this one and make the AG forums as fun as they use to be. Thankyou, -Red
I'd love to see more thought-through posts, but when more people join, the average intelligence will apparently drop. Just try to keep the good threads alive.
So I guess that means we're not Hive Minded...hmmmmm, there goes all my alien theories! =P
@The Lower Half of StraightJaketMan's Post Hey the criminally insane may like to play games as well! Anyway there's a reason I don't go in the Video Games Section on this site, it's a madhouse O_O
*Down With Vs. Threads, Up With The Armourgames Underground Arena!*
It's not that people can't do these simple things, it's that they just don't care whether they are fluent or not. They think that they won't get in trouble for their spamming, and in some senses, that is correct. Yeah, so the spam is deleted, but is that really solving the problem? Not really. You need to put some sense into those that are posting spam, off-topic comments, and others, like flaming. Simply locking and deleting comments and threads simply won't solve the problem! And for those that are fine with their comments, you need to set an example for those that are doing wrong to the forums. That's basically how people learn; from following other peoples' footsteps and learning that that's what everyone else wants, they will stop what they used to do and start making constructive comments. For those that think that doesn't work; wrong. So far, I've helped three people learn from their mistakes, who's names I'm not revealing, but so far, they've only done good on the forums ever since.
Whoah! This thread seems pretty active, I'm gonna stick around.
I'm 13, and English isn't my mother language, but, that doesn't mean I have to post with bad grammar and such. A suggestions is that we have a stickied "Armor Etiquette" kind of thing. It really isn't that hard to mantain your "cool" on the forums. Just evade way too short posts, use one of the many grammar checkers on internet, and evade chatspeak at every cost. Now, what you post about is very different...
There are many people who don't read the sticky forums though, so maybe, the first time you enter the community you get a pop-up or are redirected to some special screen...
Besides those things, there is the art of discussing without hating each other/equal discussion. And the "what the mods hate to see"; posts with nothing but "this is spam", "Mod, please lock this", "I report it to a mod", "spam" and so on, or a combination of those.
Now then, I don't actually have trouble finding places to post. Once you have a few good threads going, you can get a very good amount. If you consider everything under 2 paraghraphs spam as far as new topics go, then half the forums will become spam. They are not spam for the most part, and should not be worryed about by users. *COUGH*YUO PEOPLE*COUGH* Becuse the mods will see to it in time. Now then, I'm leaving before I say something i shouldn't.
Are you sure you read all my post? I said that but AFTER that I said : Unless they can say no more which I Understand. Please get your facts right.

Please no Pop-Up, I already get one when I go to AG every time =[ Plus that'd make people angry and start making topics to get rid of that, because 'it was so annoying to read the first time', you know there will be whiners =P
..."what the mods hate to see"; posts with nothing but "this is spam", "Mod, please lock this", "I report it to a mod", "spam" and so on...
The age of good guides is over, no more o_O As for 'lz lock this' things, I don't think we'll be able to get rid of them because people take it upon themselves to let the mods know the thread needs to be locked.
I'm very glad to see that people are reading this and agreeing. I would like to state one thing: This thread is not directed at any person or in particular, it was just a common view of the forums as I saw it when I came back. Please do not think that I am insulting you at all because if that is the case (which it is not) I apologize for the misunderstanding.
Regarding the spam issues, I know that spam is inevitable because that's just a given. Your going to find some very obnoxious people over the internet and some of them enjoy sites like these so they can annoy the heck out of the rest of us. But lets try to avoid becoming these types of people. I'm not saying that for every time that you post you need to have an essay of a response but it is nice to have a well written out sentence (at the bare minimum!)
On the spelling and grammar, again it's not the hardest thing in the world! I want to be an author when I get out of college and I still make grammar mistakes here and there! Just try a spell check if you need the help it can make all the difference in the world.
I just meant that I hope that my good grammar and things are not considered spam, because of how bad that would be for people who use abbreviations and such. Sorry if I made you think I was insulted. Back on topic, most of the people who write really bad either don't know how annoying it is, don't care, or just think that spelling right is too much of a hassle to bother doing it. I personally get so annoyed by the red squiggly lines that I have to change it, but of course it then gets annoying saying lol and Destor all of the time, because I don't like to add things to the dictionary in case I make a typo about it later.
And I am now going to indent my paragraphs. Hooray! And also sorry if that seems to much off topic.
When a place like AG opens it's door to everyone, they are going to attract people who care about things like manners and etiquette, spelling and grammar as well as people who don't. That is implied in the concept of the open door.
This doesn't mean those that don't are in anyway intentionally being crass, or unpleasant, they often simply have never known there is another way.
Nor does it imply that the level of discourse must, due to this open door policy sink to the lowest common denominator.
However, if the open-doored-place does nothing to foster the more sophisticated mode of behavior, (for example, if they scoff at the idea of policing poor spelling, and improper grammar), then they will come to learn the effects of social entropy.
That is to say, those who prefer the higher levels of discourse will eventually wander away, or more often be driven away by the 'leet speak' etcetera.
Those who enjoy the simpler joys of 'Dog v. Warthog' and 'Where did I leave my salami?' will not.
As the balance sways, the uninitiated erudite will see few things to lure them, where as those who feel no need to elevate their discourse will feel comforted, and at home amongst others of their own kind.
Simply put, an establishment will always come to reflect the standards maintained by the management. A balloon does not rise, unless the effort is made to make it do so, be it by hot air (such as my own) or by any other method.
i really dont think that grammar or spelling or capitalism is really an issue, its the substance of the post. i dont use the best grammar, nor take the time to capitalize every sentence, but i dont think that because i do this it makes my posts illegible. also, it certainly doesnt make my posts second to the ones with proper grammar. as long as the substance of the post makes sense and is relevent to the subject, its fine.
I notice that a lot of people in this thread are making long, two paragraph posts, probably just to make it seem like you arent one of "those people."
I have recently been making lengthier posts, mainly because ive been finding better subjects to talk about. im sure if you just look a little bit harder you will be rewarded.
sorry if anyone was offended in the making of this post
I can see what your trying to say red.I always try look for some intresting topics, I never really find any all I really post in now is The Tavern in stories in the Writing Section.I would like to see actually less spam in the forums too and everyone try to makes their posts as long as they can.
I also see some inactiveness in some parts of the AG forum. Not just in this section of the forum, but in other sections as well, like people only care about this part, while they don't care about the Game Walkthrough section while the threads start to die. No one reads the threads and they start to die out!
Even though i am a new member here, and i never go on the AG forum, which is probably why the threads are so boring, and theirs never anything to talk about.
I know my spelling isn't good (Plural and some bigger words tend to confuse me) but i always try to write something constructive (except for the DC topic) and i always only post in good topics.
I totaly agree tho there are a lot of "childish/Silly/pointless/VS" topics.
